Nicholas’ work with Arcadis has given him significant experience
in working with new and existing structures. His extensive
experience in the design and refurbishment of retail and
commercial buildings, with experience ranging from new retail
developments, commercial re-developments and large retail re-
developments has given him a broad range of experiences,
allowing him to develop his leadership, project management,
financial and analytical, and relationship management skills. He
has also worked on a several heritage structures and has an
appreciation of the sensitive issues particular to heritage
structures.
Nicholas’ responsibilities also include the project management of a
number of structural engineering projects. His focus on technical and
project management excellence ensures the successful delivery of
projects for Arcadis.
During the time that Nicholas has worked with Arcadis, he has been
given significant responsibilities, managing a raft of projects
concurrently; many of which have had prior performance issues to
address, and many with multiple stakeholders. Nicholas has used his
strong interpersonal skills, his project management and team
leadership skills and commercial acumen to ensure project delivery in
line with client business objectives and needs. This has been achieved
whilst also developing trust and rapport with our clients.
Technically, Nicholas has extensive design experience in steel
structures and concrete structures, with a focus on architectural steel
roof structures using hollow sections and the refurbishment and
alteration of existing retail structures through the use of strengthening
techniques. He has followed through to detailed design and
construction several large steel structures that employ large structural
steel hollow sections.
Overall, Nicholas is strategic in his thinking and planning processes, is
an articulate communicator and engages well with both his colleagues
within Arcadis and with our clients. He is driven and highly focussed on
achieving exemplary business outcomes.

Prince of Wales Hospital Site Investigations —
Randwick NSW
Health Infrastructure, 2016
Role – Lead Structural Engineer
Prince of Wales Hospital, one of Sydney’s largest hospitals and health care precincts, is
earmarked for substantial funding for redevelopment. Arcadis has been appointed to
manage site investigations into key asset infrastructure on site to inform the future
masterplan. Arcadis managed 12 different disciplines to provide a holistic understanding
of the campus and deliver within a tight deadline. The project required coordination across
all consulting disciplines as well as surveyors to deliver a fully coordinated Revit model of
the entire site including over 30 buildings. Our structural team undertook inspections and
asset review of all buildings as well as a design review to understand the limitations and
opportunities for redevelopment on the site.
Westfield Warringah — Brookvale NSW
Scentre Group, 2016
Role – Structural Engineer
Warringah Mall, the largest retail centre on Sydney’s Northern Beaches is currently
undergoing extensive redevelopment, the largest since first opening in the 1960’s. New
mall space with over 70 additional tenants and a new carpark have been constructed
within the operational centre. Key design challenges have resulted from the partial
demolition of existing structures to reinstate new floors plates at different levels and to
facilitate the creation of new mall areas. A large mall space and void was installed across
the location of an existing shear-wall, requiring detailed staging and the relocation of the
shear wall. Two floors were demolished under an existing operational carpark adjacent to
an existing tenancy with temporary propping and strengthening installed to minimise the
impact to the centre.
400 George St — Sydney, NSW
Lend Lease, 2014 $80M
Role – Structural Engineer
This project presented a number of challenges regarding working in existing buildings and
working on heritage structures. The existing heritage building façade was retained and
supported with steel structure installed internally to provide a new support structure. The
awning to the heritage building was supported off the internal steel and relies on restraint
from the floor steel work to minimise torsion. Arcadis was responsible for reviewing the
installation of two large voids and the removal of three columns, with 300 tonnes of
concrete removed in the void installation alone. Two columns were reduced in size
significantly and we were able to retain and reuse the existing awning structure to 400
George Street.
Westfield Chatwood — Chatswood NSW
Scentre Group, 2015 $80M
Role – Structural Engineer

on international tenants. The project includes extensive non-standard floor plate infill

works inside the existing structure, a new atrium and long span trussed roof as well as a
new 7 level concrete framed structure constructed adjacent to the existing centre. All
within a tight deadline. Significant amounts of strengthening works have occurred as
areas have been upgraded from carpark to retail. Arcadis has worked to ensure that the
works have had a minimal impact on the operational centre.
Gateway Shopping Centre — Darwin, NT
Nesfall Pty Ltd, 2013

precast and tilt-up panels surrounding the structure, design of the foundations for uplift, as
well as interfacing with the architect and client regarding a number of other design
constraints.
