JOB SUMMARY:
2. The Cheer Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Cheer program at Woodward
West. The goal is to always provide exceptional service (The Camp Experience) to our clients—
cheerleaders, tumblers, and gymnasts, ages 7 to 17. It is the responsibility of the Cheer Director
to ensure that the standards and expectations are met in all areas including the safety and
cleanliness of the cheer/gymnastics facility; the identification, hiring, and oversight of an
exceptional staff; arranging for visits from cheer and tumbling VIPs; hiring and oversight of the
junior staff (Gym Crew); ensuring a quality instructional program; assisting with the Visiting
Coaches and Visiting Team programs; communication with parents of campers as necessary;
assistance with the oversight and execution of the Sunday camper evaluation and subsequent
class placement; contribute to the greater good of camp through interaction with other directors
and programs; and all other aspects critical to the execution of the cheer program.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following is a list of the various duties and responsibilities assumed by the Cheer Director.
The Cheer Director will meet with and communicate with the Camp Director, on a regular basis,
as well as with other Woodward staff and associates, as instructed or arranged, in order to best
accomplish these tasks in the most proficient and cost effective manner. More specifically,
THE CHEER DIRECTOR WILL:

Identify, hire, and manage cheer, tumbling, and cheer-choreography instructors and junior
staff members;
•
Arrange for visits by cheer-industry VIPs with focus toward marketing value and budget;
•
Hosting of VIP guests while they are at camp, including organizing any necessary travel in
conjunction with transportation director;
•
Direct and execute of overall cheer, tumbling, and cheer related programs
•
Maintain budget related to staff/labor related to cheer program;
•
Develop, manage, and execute the Visiting Cheer Coach Program;
•
Develop, manage, and execute the Visiting Cheer Team Program;
•
Communicate with other directors and areas of camp as necessary to support cheer program and
contribute to the greater good;
•
Develop marketing strategies, and annual marketing plan, and budget for cheer for review and
approval by camp director;

Promote, organize, and host cheer train-always;

Maintain relationship with all clubs and organizations to arrange marketing visits, assist in
promotion of visiting VIPs, celebrate team sign-ups, follow-up with club visits as necessary,

Travel to cheer clubs and competitions during off-season to make Woodward West presentations
promoting summer camp
•
Promote the opportunity for those within the cheer community to host clinics and
competitions for cheerleaders, coaches, judges, and all other entities of the cheer community;
manage and assist in execution of same;
•
Develop opportunities for Woodward West-hosted cheer meets, clinics, etc., with the intention of
marketing to potential new campers;
•
Develop relationship with cheer programs teams throughout the West;
•
Assist in contributing to Web site with Woodward cheer-related news stories, photos,
announcements, etc.;
•
Maintain cheer facility to the highest standards; and
•
Assume other duties necessary to the advancement of Woodward West’s cheer program and
Woodward West as a whole.
