Patients with severe aortic stenosis have a high risk of bleeding due to an acquired von Willebrand syndrome in 67-92% of cases. The severity of the bleeding matches the severity of the aortic stenosis. Most patients who undergo aortic valve replacement for aortic stenosis see their chronic gastrointestinal bleeding from angiodysplasia cease. The acquired von Willebrand syndrome is thought to result from mechanical disruption of von Willebrand factor during turbulent blood flow through the narrowed aortic valve.

This document discusses a clinical case of acquired bleeding disorder in a 74-year-old man presenting with bruising. Testing revealed von Willebrand disease type 2 and angiodysplasias. The key considerations for this patient include potential medication and liver disease contributions to bleeding, as well as the diagnosis of acquired von Willebrand disease. Treatment focuses on managing the underlying cause of the acquired bleeding disorder.
Bleeding disorders are caused by abnormalities in hemostasis and coagulation, characterized by spontaneous or trauma-induced skin or mucosal bleeding from capillaries. The process of hemostasis involves platelet plug formation and coagulation reactions resulting in fibrin formation to stop bleeding. Disorders can involve abnormalities of platelets, blood vessels, or coagulation factors, leading to excessive bleeding from sites like the skin, joints, muscles or body cavities. Diagnosis involves tests like aPTT, PT, and platelet counts to assess the coagulation pathways and pinpoint the cause of bleeding.

Coaching for Character and Sportsmanship
A coach's character is one of the most important aspects of their credibility. Social factors that indicate the importance of educating young people about morality and character are paramount. Character and the professional responsibility that coaches bear in this area should be stressed.
Character is defined, and the idea that developing good character habits requires repeated practice is proposed. Coaches of character are described as those who help young people know what's right, instill the desire to do what's right, and guide them in the process of doing right. Sportsmanship is simply good character when participating in sport: It is about respect for opponents, officials, teammates, coaches, and for the game itself.
Three steps for teaching character and sportsmanship are presented: identify the principles of character, teach the principles of character, and provide opportunities to practice. Principles of character are identified: respect, responsibility, caring, honesty, fairness, and citizenship. Examples of life and sport actions associated with these principles are provided.
Six strategies for teaching principles of character are presented and discussed. They include creating a moral team environment, modeling moral behavior for athletes, and setting rules for good behavior. Strategies for explaining and discussing moral behavior (including the problem of hazing), using and teaching ethical decision making, and motivating athletes to develop good character are also presented. Ideas for establishing routines and rewarding good character are proposed as ways to provide athletes with practice for developing character.

This research study analyzes whether Olympic weightlifting or traditional weightlifting is more effective in developing speed, power, and strength in athletes. Previous studies have found that Olympic weightlifting, which involves lifts like the clean and jerk and snatch, significantly improved vertical jump height and 40-yard sprint times more than traditional weightlifting. Olympic lifting engages the entire body and facilitates the muscle firing patterns and power needed for explosive movements like jumping. While traditional lifts build strength, Olympic lifts provide a total body workout that directly translates to athletic performance gains.

From a young age, Psaroudakis showed an innate talent for football. Growing up in Heraklion, he spent countless hours playing football in local parks and streets with friends and family. His natural ability was evident even in these informal settings, and his enthusiasm for the game was infectious. By the age of five, Psaroudakis had joined a local youth football club, where his skills began to flourish. His father’s role as his first coach during these formative years was crucial, as he emphasized not only technical skills but also the importance of discipline and teamwork.
The transition from playing in local parks to joining a structured football environment marked a significant step in Psaroudakis’ journey. At the age of ten, he joined the youth academy of OFI Crete, one of Greece’s most esteemed football clubs. This move marked the beginning of a more rigorous and professional approach to his training. The academy environment was demanding, focusing on honing technical abilities and instilling values of sportsmanship and dedication. Psaroudakis’ dedication to his craft was evident as he quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a standout player in the youth teams.
The support of Psaroudakis’ family was unwavering during this critical period. His father continued to be a source of guidance and mentorship, while his mother ensured that he had everything he needed to succeed. Their collective efforts created a balanced environment where Psaroudakis could focus entirely on his development as a footballer. This familial support was not just about providing the basics; it was about creating an environment where Psaroudakis felt encouraged and motivated to pursue his dreams relentlessly.
As Psaroudakis transitioned from the youth academy to professional football, the challenges became more significant.

Belgium coach Domenico Tedesco will wait for several key players to recover from injury. Even if it means they miss the opening Euro Cup Germany stages of the European Championship in Germany this month. Veteran defender Jan Vertonghen, midfielder Youri Tielemans and defender Arthur. Theate are being given time to play in the tournament because they are considered vital to Belgium’s cause, Tedesco said on Tuesday.

"Of course, you prefer to take players who are fully fit, but that's okay. We want to wait and be patient for some players even if they cannot play in those first matches," he told a press conference. The 37-year-old Vertonghen, Belgium’s Euro Cup 2024 most-capped international with 154 appearances, is struggling to shake off a groin injury.
"He will be there normally. This also applies to Youri Tielemans and Arthur Theate. The latter's position is very sensitive. We don't have many choices at left back. "It will only change if it turns out that they will only be available when, say, the final of the Euro 2024 Championship comes around. That's too long to wait. "However, I am confident that the injured boys are on track for the Euros.
Belgium vs Romania: Radu Dragusin Prepares for Crucial Role in Euro Cup Germany
Some of them have taken not one but two steps forward in their rehabilitation," he said. None of the injured players will feature in this week’s warm-up friendlies against Montenegro and Luxembourg. Romania centre-back Radu Dragusin found chances limited at Tottenham Hotspur in the second half of the 2023-24 season.
But is crucial to his country's cause at UEFA Euro 2024 where his aerial ability, physicality and hard graft make him a standout player. The 22-year-old moved to North London from Italian side Genoa in January but was kept on the sidelines by the form of another new arrival for the season, Mickey van de Ven, something Romania coach Edward Iordanescu admitted was a concern.
It will mean limited game-time going into the finals, but Dragusin, who cites Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk as a role model, started every Euro Cup Germany qualifier as Romania went through the campaign unbeaten in their 10 games. He will be among their most important players in their first game in Germany against Ukraine in Munich on June 17, taking the right centre-back role in what is likely to be a back four.

Coaching in district150
1. P a g e | 1
“Athletes first, winning second” is the NFHS (National Federation of High
Schools) coaching philosophy adopted by the IHSA and taught through its ASEP
certification process.
Sadly to say that this philosophy is not embraced by all coaches and schools in
District 150. How do I know?
During my time with the district, I was Head track coach of both boys and girls at
Lincoln Middle School, Assistant boys track coach at Manual HS, Head girls
basketball coach here at Roosevelt Grade School and volunteer assistant coaches of
both track and basketball at both Manual and Roosevelt prior to that for a number
of years. I was the first and only head coach of the District 150 grade school
summer girls basketball camp and grade school co-ed track & field camp.
Because I was not a teacher, I was required to take the ASEP certification courses
which included a sports first aid and more recently a concussion requirement.
However, in order to be a grade school coach, there was and is NO course or
training requirement.
The current practice of the District is that if you are a teacher or an assistant, then
you can step right into coaching both at a high school or grade school level with
little more than concussion training, CPR training and sports first aid training at the
high school level and only CPR training at the grade school level.
Aside from standard District wide employee CBT training on such things, there is
no specific coach training at either high school or grade school level for sexual
harassment or sexual abuse, nor are there any defined coaching standards of
conduct, team building and program progress monitoring.

In this District, We have coaches loosing whole teams (causing athletes to quite
and walk off, or kicking athletes off the team for little or no reason) during the
course of the season without ever having to explain and or meet with either athletes
and or parents to discuss the woefully inadequate results. YET, those same coaches
maintain a stipend and pay from taxpayers without their actions being called into
accountability.
We have coaches who have never had to produce a coaching plan or explain team
philosophy to an administrator or overseer IF they were ever overseen. How is
their work justified? By Principals who know very little or nothing about the
sports, the needs or interactions?
I know of situations where coaches, have received multiple complaints from
athletes and parents about their demeanor, behavior and inappropriate actions, but
who continue to disrespect the “public” that is a part of our name.
I recently received a half page guideline from a coach (which I thought was at least
a positive step) that stated that the coach was unavailable to be contacted by a
parent at “any time” on a game day. In other words, “don’t contact me for anything
until I am ready to be contacted”…What of athlete injury or emergency? The same
sheet spoke that athletes would be held “accountable”.
Standards such as these are not only hypocritical but wholly inadequate for a
PUBLIC school. This is not a private or exclusive institution or an institution
where talent has been hand selected. A PUBLIC school is an institution where
every employee should be accountable to the PUBLIC that it serves, EVEN
coaches!

One particular coach, who I personally reported for sexually grooming a child,
although removed from girls coaching, yet continues to coach District children. In
part because the Principal was afraid of union reprisal. In this case, no sport
specific sexual harassment or sexually inappropriate ID training had been delivered
to anyone. Neither the principal or the coach knew the nuances of sports specific
sexual “grooming” and how to identify and avoid it.
As a USATF coach, part of my annual training is to complete a Safe Sport training
whereby we review standards of accountability towards athletes, parents and
families. We are taught to identify hazing, sexually inappropriate interactions with
athletes and implement safeguards and standards. Similar to ASEP we are taught
to create a team philosophy that values our product, ie: the children and families.
Unfortunately, this District neither adopts nor implements a real program to place
athletes first!
Ooh we have some excellent coaches, and calling their names would take quite a
while, and although winning is good, it may be a surprise that some of the best
coaches don’t always have the most winning records.
Successful coaches, value their product, and look to improve their skills and the
skills of their athletes.
Yes, we have some good coaches, but we MUST do much better across the board
and at all levels of student athletics.
This is at a time when Americans are spending more dollars than ever before on
youth athletics and athletic development. Parents are investing heavily in their
4. P a g e | 4
children. Look at Peoria’s basketball camps and the explosion of AAU athletics.
This is at a time when Universities are placing high net investments into athletic
programs seeking to enhance visibility and increase opportunity for their
student/athletes and bolster collegiate enrollments. In other words, this is about
truly creating opportunity for ALL student athletes.
Peoria athletes are second to none in my opinion, however, our children need better
support. We don’t need coaches penalizing athletes because they can’t practice on
Sunday or because they missed a summer camp. We don’t need coaches who see
parents as a burden.
We need coaches who teach skills and fundamentals, who can assess and identify
talent and give athletes the opportunity to play and be a part of the team.
Just because a person is a teacher, does not mean they should be or can be a coach.
Open up coaching to qualified individuals who are willing to contribute their time
and experience to our children. In crease the number of Black and minority
coaches at institutions who very rarely, if ever see Black leadership in a position
directly interfacing with them.
Do not continue to prohibit our children by allowing unprepared, untrained and and
undedicated individuals to discourage their horizons in athletics. Take the same
diligence with athletes and their care as is taken with classroom instruction.
