2. As a assistant coach, this position is responsible
for assisting the head coach with organizing
the basketball program at the assigned school.
Also, this position assists with conducting
practices, making travel and meal
arrangements, creating practice plans,
scheduling individual work outs, motivating
students, cutting film, and instructing student
athletes in game strategies and techniques.
3. Evaluating performance and providing suitable feedback,
balancing criticism with positive and motivating comments.
Developing knowledge and understanding of fitness, injury,
sports psychology, nutrition and sports science.
Inspiring confidence.
Encouraging student-athletes to gain and develop skills,
knowledge and techniques.
Communicating instructions and commands using clear, simple
language.
Assessing strengths and weaknesses in a student-athlete’s
performance and identifying areas for further development.

Planning and running programs of activities
for groups and/or individuals.
Finding appropriate locations for competitions.
Coordinating student-athletes attendance

6. Many high school assistant coaches have
licenses to teach a subject area at the school.
This is because in many schools you have to be
licensed to teach a subject as well as be a coach.
There are some cases where you can only coach
instead of teach and coach.

Many assistant coaches develop relationships with players that are very
different from that of the head coach. But when the entire coaching staff
are on the same page, the assistant coach can motivate, push, and “coach”
the players just the same as the head coach.
