3. Analysingthe Project
Design Situation: (The problem you are going to solve)
You have a selection of small items that need to be dispensed
and you need somewhere to store them.
Design Brief: (What you are going to do to solve the problem)
Design and Make a dispenser so that you can hold items till
you need them dispensed.
Things to Consider:
• Where is the dispenser going to be used?
• Who will your dispenser be for?
• Will you ever want to change the objects that are stored?
• How are you going to open your dispenser?
Dispenser Project
What I think makes an effective Task Analysis is:
•
•
•
From completing this page I have learnt:
What design could your
dispenser have?
Who is it for?
How could you open your
dispenser?
What could you put in your
dispenser?

6. Find examples of existing products or the theme to help
with designing.
Link research to the task and
show technical information
for your specification. E.g.
materials, sizes, components
etc.
Produce a minimum of one
paragraph of analysis that
is descriptive and draws
helpful conclusions related
to the design task
Show evidence of research
from two sources
independently, e.g. internet,
magazines, books, surveys
etc.
Analyse your research with
regard to aesthetic (E.g.
appearance) and to include
the cost
Research similar or existing
products and explain how
you will use this in your
designing Show evidence that you have
considered the target market
to help your designs

Lesson What you did: Tools Used:
1 Used a steel rule to accurately mark out my piece of Pine into set pieces.
2 I used the Try square to get all my markingsat 90 degrees.
I left gaps so I had space to cut with the Tenon saw.
3 Using the Try square and metal rule to mark out the points where the forstner bit will be drilling the holes.
4 I then used the Belt sander to get my four pieces of pine square.
I made sure that I had tied back my hair and had used safety goggles.
5 I then took my piece to the pillar drill, to drill the 90̊ angle holes in the work
6 Using round files and glass paper to ensure that there are no sharp edges.
7 I set up the jig to ensure that the drill can drill a 45 ̊ angle
8 Had a hole punched in the lid with a hole punch

I have chosen this idea because:
Start
Drill 2 holes with a
28mm forstner
drill bit, where the
two linescross.
Do your
holes match
Up without any
Excess?
Finish
Drill 1 hole with a
28mm forstner drill
bit, where the two
Lines cross.
