1. Reading And Writing Course Reflection
As I began this course, reading and writing was a struggle. I never put an effort forward to improve myself in this subject, so my English was naturally
impacted throughout my studies. The people I admired within school and throughout my life, never put an emphasis on reading and writing, which
affected my reading and writing, coming into this class. The difficulties start from procrastination and continues on to word usage within my writing.
Starting from grade school I've always had a struggle with reading and writing, but I could confidently say that after taking this course I am a better
reader and writer. Along the way, numerous questions were answered about my reading and writing, by looking at what I need to improve on and

2. Reflection About Reading And Writing
Rick Riordan once said, "The images from the book you make in your head are always going to be the best images." It was in these words that I
started reading books at a young age. When I was growing up as a kid in elementary school, I did not have a huge interest in reading or writing, that is,
until I met my fourth–grade teacher. When I met Ms. Deemer, my perspective onreading and writing changed as she introduced me to books that were
in my pool of interests and gave me tips on writing, resulting in a change of how I looked at reading and writing.
Unfortunately, I struggled to read a bit, and this resulted because of my tendency to skim through words while reading, giving me a hard time

I also think that if the book that I would have to read or if the subject I am writing on is appealing to me, then I think I would be more dedicated to
reading it, instead of unwillingly do it.
At this point, I was at the peak of my writing and reading skills. I was soon offered opportunities or advantages from my hard work. For example,
my teachers started to congratulate me for my writing on my essays and I was given chances to enter for contests that no one else was given. All of
this came with some cons although. Now, I had friends or classmates coming to me for help when I needed to also work on my assignments, which
was a huge pain.
Additionally, I was bilingual, speaking Vietnamese and English, which helped my in reading Vietnamese and translating it for others, which has
proved to be very useful. As a result, I started to take classes to improve on my Vietnamese and started to learn Spanish. Knowing that these languages
would help me with my future and choices in life, I decided to not let these opportunities to slip by and grab them.
From here on, every time when I would read or write, it felt like an instant, where I just opened my book and closed it or if I picked up a pencil and
magically finished writing in a moment. Books were my past time for entertainment and writing was a way to release my ideas onto paper and not
forget them. As a result, my perspective changed on reading and

3. Reflection On Academic Reading
Reading is one of my favorite pastimes. I am a tuned–in Reader, and I appreciate well written biographies. Enjoyable reading takes my mind off school
work and relaxes me. I enjoy academic reading as well, but sometimes it is intense and requires much concentration. Moreover, I am a tuned in
reader when it comes to academic subject's such as; psychology, nutrition, health and history. Every spare moment I have; I pick up a book or
magazine, and get carried away, by the text. I visualize the story and its' characters as if, the story is taking place right next to me. Furthermore, I
predict the outcomes of the stories and pose questions in my mind about the characters. I enjoy reading biographies about famous people like
Charles Dickens and Anne Frank. Additionally, I enjoy reading short stories and magazines such as; Binah, Ami, and Mishpachah. I am fascinated
by the astounding articles in the Ami. For example, the article about a "Journey to North Korea", makes me feel as if I had experienced it myself.
Academic reading gives me a sense of accomplishment and joy. Generally, I am a tuned in reader, when it comes to reading information. When I am
reading, I analyze and visualize the ideas of the passage. When I stop and think of what I am reading, it enhances my level of comprehension. My
appreciation is also increased, to understand and learn new information. Furthermore, I enjoy taking my academic reading to a different level, by

I remember when I started kindergarten. It was August 27, 1990. I'm still a little angry about that day because it was my fifth birthday and I still
remember that I didn't get to wear a crown on that day like the rest of my classmates did on their birthdays. I guess I didn't get to wear the crown
because it was the first day of school. But besides that, kindergarten was a really great year. In the mornings we'd go around the classroom to different
stations and play different games, then we'd go to P.E., thenlunch, and finally nap time. That was the year I learned how to count to one thousand. My

I also went through a phase in junior high where I bought non–fiction diaries of teenagers that struggled through different problems. Those always
kept me entertained and they were the type of books that I could never put down. Reading was never something that I just did in school. I did it
whenever we had free time in class, after school, and at night before bed. It was always one of my hobbies. I also found writing very interesting. I
enjoyed writing papers for all of my English classes. Every one was a little different and every year I truly believe that I became a better writer. I
learned different ways to write and I believe that I always met my teacher's expectations in my papers. I remember in fifth grade I had to write my
first autobiography. That was the only time until now that I got to write entirely about myself. It's a project that I'll never forget. My teacher gave us
about a month to write this paper and put a book together. The book consisted of my paper and pictures all glued to construction paper. In that
autobiography I wrote about my time growing up, my family, my friends, my hobbies, etc. My parents still have that book. It was such an impacting
project. It was really nice to reflect on my time growing up and the things I enjoyed.

5. Reflecting on my early memories of reading and writing is difficult. I never identified as a strong reader or writer. In fact, growing up I put little
importance on reading and writing because, unlike most other parts of school, I didn't feel very good at it. Therefore, I never gave my experience as a
reader or writer much thought and when asked to reflect, my mind went blank then filled with mostly disappointing memories and finally questions of
why my mindset was what it was and how I can take action to identify and rectify the same mindset in myself and in my students.
Reading
My have no early home memories of reading. I always did my homework but I remember lying on my reading logs about how much I read because
I wanted to go play outside or I had to do chores and didn't have time. My parents had a very busy schedule between raising four children and
working sometimes multiple jobs. When they were home I wanted to spend time with them and what they did was watch TV. Although I believe the
lack of books in my home and adult models of readers did not help foster a relationship with reading for me, I do not blame my apathy towards
reading on them by any means. My parents always reinforced the importance of and respect for school. Without them I would not be where I am today.
But I recognize their limitations and my privilege.
I do have memories of reading with my father but it's not how most would assume. In middle school I began helping my father read in English. He had

Why Should I Read?
"Reading a book is like re–writing it for yourself.... You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history
and you read it in your own terms."
Angela Carter (1940–1992), British author.
Why read? Why should I read the book before it comes out in cinema? Why is settling down with a good book better then sitting on the couch
watching The Simpson's reruns? I have often pondered the merits of reading, but you don't realise the advantages until you actually begin reading. Until

Books hold vast amounts of knowledge. In every book, there is something to learn. Biographies and Diaries can give us accounts of the Second World

Children should be encouraged to read from a young age, it helps them with spelling and grammar. It cultivates their young minds and helps them to

9. Essay on Reading-Is It Important?

Reading–Is It Important?
Reading can be such a broad topic in America today. How important is it, why do we read, the questions are endless but to what extent is reading
really important? There are so many issues going on around the globe such as illegal immigration, abortion and the new health care reform. Reading is
no where near as important as those topics, those issues can change one's life forever and reading is just something we do without even noticing. It
comes natural to a human being in the 21st century. In Rick Moody's piece "The Joy and Enthusiasm of Reading" he is arguing that there is no right or
wrong way to read. I agree with Moody's opinion that there is no right or wrong...show more content...
We were all created differently which means we all look at things with a different viewpoint. There should never be a limitation on reading, we
have the freedom as human beings to interpret something any way we want too. Books have that power to take you into your thoughts and really
examine what your thoughts are on the book and how you feel and when it's fiction it can take you into the story and get you to really use your
imagination, there can be no limitations when it comes to your own thoughts and your own imagination. Rick Moody said "I believe in the
absolute and unlimited liberty of reading, I believe in wandering through the stacks and picking out the first thing that strikes me" (pg.3) and later
in the essay he said "I believe there is not now and never will be an authority who can tell me how to interpret, how to read, how to find the pearl of
literary meaning in all cases" (pg. 4). The author clearly believes that reading should be left up to the imagination and the reader should have
complete control on how he or she looks at the book they are reading. After reading this piece, Moody definitely caught my attention with the idea
that there are people out there that believe there is a certain way to read something and you never really realize how seriously people take the topic of
reading and how many different opinions there are on the issue. Reading is something we do so naturally just like breathing or walking. Moody

10. Essay on The Importance of Reading
Reading has at all times and in all ages been a source of knowledge, of happiness, of pleasure and even moral courage. In today's world with so
much more to know and to learn and also the need for a conscious effort to conquer the divisive forces, the importance of reading has increased. In the
olden days if reading was not cultivated or encouraged, there was a substitute for it in the religious sermon and in the oral tradition. The practice of
telling stories at bed time compensated to some extent for the lack of reading. In the nineteenth century Victorian households used to get together for
an hour or so in the evenings and listen to books being read aloud. But today we not only read, we also want to read more and more and catch up...show

There is then the serious reading undertaken for research and for satisfying one's longing for knowledge. It may be a subject of scientific significance,
or a subject of historic or philosophic importance – varying according to the taste of the person. This kind of reading disciplines the mind and trains one
for critical and original thinking. There is yet another kind of reading –reading for pleasure. Though serious reading is also a source of pleasure,
reading which is devoted mainly to it differs in one respect. It grows upon one, it gives before demanding and it soothes and relieves tension and
loneliness. The only kind of reading which neither stimulates thought nor provides knowledge is one which is approached negatively, with the simple
motive of escape and of "killing" time.
A person who is widely read is able to mix with others: he is a better conversationalist than those who do not read. He can stand his ground. Reading
broadens the vision. it is in a way a substitute for travel. It is not possible to travel as much as one would like to and reading can fill in the gap created
by the lack of travel. "Reading", as Bacon wrote in his essay. 'Of Studies'. "maketh a full man: conference a ready man: and writing an exact man".
Thus a widely–read man is a better conversationalist and is able to see the other point of view.

12. Reflective Essay On Reading
My second year as a second grade teacher has been full of changes. This year, administration has changed the way that reading would look for second
grade. Now, my students switch to four other teachers for the whole reading block whereas last year I had my class for the entire reading block. The
group of students who I teach during reading range from DRA 20–28. These students are either on or above grade level in reading. For that reason, I
am only responsible for the reading instruction of transitional and advanced readers.
One student who has made increasing strides since the end of her first grade year is Layah. This fall, she increased by 5 reading levels which has
her currently reading at a DRA level of 20. From observing Layah in small group reading instruction, she has shown a positive attitude towards
reading for the simple fact that she tries her best to attack any difficult text that is placed in front of her. Her growth in reading stems from reading
over the summer as well as reading every night for homework. During my observation, I noticed that Layah was trying to read the text used for whole
group instruction. Although she did not know every single word, she looked for words that she knew within the difficult word. Furthermore, she found
some blends and digraphs that we had reviewed this past week. I used a blends and digraphs game as a formative assessment for each one of my
reading groups. Currently, Layah has an A in reading and oral/written communication.

13. Reflection On Reading And Writing
My experience in English 202 has been an interesting and informative one. Prior to taking this course, I thought that I knew what the English major
was all about: reading and writing. Both of those things come easily to me, so I expected this class to be a piece of cake.
What I discovered over the course of the semester is that while reading and writing are indeed central to the English major, there is much more to it
than that. My knowledge of literary theory was scanty at best. I had no idea how many different schools of thought exist in this field. The ability to
view a text through a variety of critical lenses was unfamiliar to me, but now that I understand the concept, it brings new insight to my reading. Having
begun this semester with minimal knowledge of literary theory, I discovered that I prefer outward–looking theories such as psychoanalytic and feminist
theory over inward–looking theories such as new criticism. While I did well on all my papers and quizzes, I struggled with writing coherent thesis
statements, organizing my ideas on paper, and writing smooth transitions; I hope to continue to improve in these areas going forward. Although I did
not dislike the inward–looking theories that we studied at the beginning of the semester (indeed, discourse theory was a pleasant surprise), I will
always feel more at home working with outward–looking theories. As a reader, I instinctively seek out additional information to gain insight into the

14. The Importance Of Reading And Writing As A Person
In life we always think about the different skills a person has. As human beings our curiosity starts evolving more and more, but what are the two
most important skills that we all carry and progress? The two most important skills are reading and writing. It is a talent that every single person
has and become very important developmental skills that progress as a person gets older. Many people believe that these skills are important
because it is a way to express feelings and thoughts. People view reading and writing as a way to express oneself and they feel like it is important
to have a way to express feelings and thoughts. Reading and writing helps a person function in the world whether it be at school, as job, and in
society. Many professors have explained to me the process of writing and how it makes ones thinking visible. Once a person starts writing one's mind
starts to open up to ideas. Reading and writing is a talent that everyone has. Reading and writing are valuable skills that we all have and should
practice every day. Everyone has practiced the two most important skills, but some people may be better at them then others. Throughout a person's life
and schooling one knows what they are good at and what they are not. During High school I never had an interest in reading and writing simply
because when I first started I was in honor classes. In honors classes reading and writing were the two things that are covered and required to know.

Reading skills can be categorized to four important skills which are, intensive reading, extensive reading, scanning and skimming which have a
significant and substantial role in facilitating reading activity.
Intensive reading is practicing reading inside the classroom by supervising with a tutor and demands focusing on details in order to comprehend the

independence of select and read different topics furthermore choosing a text by a tutor neglects the interest of reading as well as reading short texts

18. Reflective Essay About Reading
Reading is important in all aspects of learning. It widens vocabulary, improves imagination, and is how we discover new things. More than
anything, reading develops the mind. It is important to begin reading with children at a very young age, to introduce new concepts and words
creating a strong basis for the future. Most small children love being read to; they find picture books fun and enjoyable because of the animated
pictures and presentation of the words. After each time they read a book, they remember the fun pictures or words, looking forward to the next
book. If a good memory of reading is planted in a child, as they grow older not only will reading come more naturally, it will bring more pleasure. I
believe the key to successfully getting a student to read is to make it as enjoyable as possible. In reading this article, I was able to relate on a few
different levels. I could put myself in the teacher's shoes on some levels, but even more so with the students. In Middle School, one of our reading
assignments were reading cards, for which our teacher would pick a new genre each month and we had to read chapter books according to the
genre. Reading cards were a tool the students would use to summarize their readings each time they read. The reading cards consisted of a chapter
book the teacher chose, each month a different genre. After each section we read, a short summary was to be written and we had to write down and

Literacy Narrative: My Reading and Writing Experience over the Years
I have never been the type of student who enjoyed reading or writing. I have always found it difficult to express myself by writing narratives, book
reports, and any other required assignment. I am far more skilled at speaking or verbal expression in general as I have found over the years that people
tend to misunderstand my point if it is written.
When I sit to write, I have to think about what I want to say. This is not easy for me as I tend to think about several things at once. Clearing my mind
and focusing on the writing task is a challenge in itself. I do not consider myself a strong writer and find it intimidating especially when I know it will
be critiqued. The sense of failure when seeing the paper I worked so hard on look like the newest local headline of a recent murder is disheartening
for me. I assume I am being overly critical of myself but those feelings seem to be redeemed when I look over the aftermath of what was my
wonderful work of mental art.
The irony of all of this is I write many different things in my current job. One any given day I draft contracts, amendments, and addendums to name a
few. I have learned a great deal from my bosses and mentors which has made me a better writer and more aware of my grammar and proofreading of
work. My Vice President is an attorney and English major with a keen ability to find the minutest errors. I try to take any criticism
