The on field officals
• Each game has three on field officals
• One is designated the Head Official
• In case of dispute the decision of the Head Official is final
• Referees are usually designated as HR, R1 and R2
• Basically, the three on field officals alway try to form a triangle
around play/the ball
• More on that in the section ‘Positioning’

Bench Officials
Authority
• In World Lacrosse games:
• Authority of officials starts with their appearance on the field
• Authority ends upon completion of the game (final whistle)
• In the Dutch league:
• Authority of officials starts with their appearance on the field
• Authority end when both teams or the officals leave the field
• In the Dutch league it is possible to penalize a player after the final
whistle
• Example: expulsion(s) for fighting during the post game
handshakes

Bench Officials
Uniform
• Each official must wear the following uniform:
• A shirt with a one inch black and white vertical stripe
• Black shorts/pants with a black belt
• Short black socks
• Black hat with white striping
• Black shoes
• Each official must carry the following accessories:
• Whistle (Fox 40)
• Yellow flags (two minimum)
• Score card and pencil
• Tape measure
• Coin

5. On Field Officials

Uniform
• For an NLB level 0 or 1 referee the following items are required:
• A shirt with a one inch black and white vertical stripe
• Black shorts/pants
• Short black socks
• Whistle (Fox 40)
• Yellow flags (two minimum)
• If a hat is worn it must be black
• No team colors / logos anywhere on the uniform
• Officiating becomes a lot easier when you look and act the part!
