What’s in a Name?
• HB1100
– The HB stands for “Heated-Box”.
– The first “1” represents the first iteration of the Heated-Box
technology in the market.
– The following “100” represents the capacity of each
Heated-Box unit to treat 100 cubic yards of soil or
sediment.
• What about “IPTD®”
– This stands for “In Pile Thermal Desorption”, an ex-situ
application of our In Situ Thermal Desorption (ISTD)
technology. Both make use of the principle of Thermal
Conductive Heating (TCH) paired with vapor extraction.
– There different ways to configure IPTD® (details later on),
so the HB1100 is but one approach.

IPTD® Heated-Box (HB)1100
The HB1100 is a cost-effective,
indirect thermal desorption
technology for on-site treatment of
contaminated soils, sediments, and
debris.

Benefits
• Lower price than alternatives:
– Traditional on-site thermal desorption (<10,000 cy)
– Off-site treatment/incineration
• Eliminates liabilities and risk:
– Transporting HW through communities
– Manifesting waste – long term ownership
• Proven technology: capable of treating organic
contaminants to non-detect levels.
• Sustainable: adheres to ASTM Greener Cleanup
Standards

Process Overview
Uses Thermal Conduction Heating (TCH) and vacuum extraction:
• TCH is the process of heat flowing from the hot end of a solid object to
the cold end. In soil or rock, heat flows from our heater elements out into
the soil by grain-to-grain contact (in soil) and across solid objects (rocks).
7
Heat spreads primarily
by conduction
→ uniform heating
Because the process is so robust, it reduces or eliminates pre-treatment material segregation
processes, capable of handling soils, sediments, non combustible construction debris, and boulders.

What Contaminants Can TCH Treat?
• Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs)
– polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
– pesticides like dichlorodiphenyl-trichloroethane (DDT), endrin,
dieldrin, aldrin, chlordane, toxaphene, heptachlor, mirex,
hexachlorobenzene (HCB)
– polychlorinated dibenzo-dioxins and furans (PCDDs/Fs, or
simply “dioxins”)
– polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) such as
benzo(a)pyrene
• Any Organic Contaminant
– e.g., Chlorinated Volatile Organic Compounds (CVOCs)
• Mercury
