Sachin Bansal was born on 5th August 1981 in
Chandigarh
He went to the St.Anne’s convent school and was an
topper from his schooling days
His father was running a business and mother was a
homemaker
He went to one of the most prestigious engineering
colleges of India and graduated as a Computer Science
Engineer from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT),
Delhi in 2003
Sachin got a job in Techspan and later in 2006, he joined
Amazon.com as a senior software engineer
At Amazon, he learned about the dynamics of online
business
Sachin Bansal and his co-founder Binny Bansal met each
other and both became employees at Amazon

Binny Bansal was born in 1983 at Chandigarh and he was also
studied at St. Anne’s school in Chandigarh
His father was first in the army. His mother is a government
employee. After retirement, his father is an employee chief manager
in the bank
He received his BTech degree in Computer Science degree from the
Indian Institute of Technology Delhi – IIT Delhi
After receiving the BTech degree, Bansal worked for Sarnoff Corp,
a research and development company and he had no brother &
sister
In 2007, Sachin Bansal and his business partner realized that the E-
commerce market in India was very small
After leaving Amazon in 2007, they planned to launch an online
bookstore

In 2007, they started the Flipkart journey by selling books
online. But now, over a decade later, story is quite different
and one of India’s leading technology powerhouses that is
disrupting the way India shops online
It started with a primary focus on online book sales and soon,
expanded to lifestyle products, electronics, home essentials
and groceries. Today, Flipkart is the biggest online Indian
marketplace competing with the world leader Amazon
Since 2010, the company has made a number of acquisitions
including Letsbuy, Myntra, Jabong, eBay India, etc. In
addition to its main office in Bengaluru, Flipkart has branch
offices at Delhi and Mumbai. Apart from India, the firm is
registered in Singapore. In 2018, the US-based retail chain
Walmart acquired majority stake in Flipkart.
