RE: Recommendation of Nathan Davies
To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to strongly recommend that Boston University School of Law admit Nathan
Davies into its online LL.M. Program in Tax. Nathan is an excellent student, and he has
a sincere interest in pursuing a LL.M. degree in Tax. He works very hard, he goes the
extra mile to ensure that he understands and completely analyzes complicated situations,
and he’s among the best students whom I’ve taught at U.C., San Diego, Stanford Law
School, and Thomas Jefferson School of Law. In addition, Nathan is a very well-rounded
person, a real team player, and a delight to be around.
For the past nine years, I have been a member of the full-time faculty at Thomas
Jefferson School of Law (Thomas Jefferson), where I teach Property I and II,
International Trade and the World Trade Organization (WTO), International Trade and
the Developing Countries, China and the WTO, and Reconciling Cultural Diversity and
Free Trade. In addition, I have taught international trade law at both Stanford law School
and the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies at the University
of California, San Diego. Prior to joining Thomas Jefferson on a full-time basis, I was an
international partner at the law firm of Baker & McKenzie, where I practiced
international trade law for several years. In addition, from 2001 to 2003, I was the
Director of the WTO Center as well as a partner at the international consulting firm of
Ernst & Young LLP.
2. I met Nathan when he joined my summer 2011 class entitled Reconciling Cultural
Diversity and Free Trade, which I taught in Thomas Jefferson’s summer law program in
Nice, France. As France and the U.S. are the main protagonists in the “culture wars” at
the WTO, Nice was a perfect place in which to study this issue and a number of very
knowledgeable European visitors addressed the class. From the beginning of this class,
Nathan was a prepared and eager student, and he often contributed significant insights
during class discussions. This is a very demanding class that meets for a few hours each
day, professors at Thomas Jefferson grade anonymously, and Thomas Jefferson applies
the same curve to summer abroad classes as it does to semester classes. Still, Nathan
received one of the very few A's (4.0) that I assigned to students in that class. I greatly
enjoyed having him in my class, and I regret that I didn’t have him as a student earlier in
his law school career.
In sum, I know Nathan as a very intelligent, diligent law student of the highest integrity
who is interested in furthering his study of tax law. I’m certain that Nathan will prosper
in his chosen career, and I have no doubt that he would be a great asset to your school.
If you need any additional information or have any questions regarding Nathan’s
application, please do not hesitate to contact me. I can be reached via email at
cwright@tjsl.edu or via phone at 619-985-9728 (cell) or 619-961-4344 (work).
Sincerely yours,
Claire Wright,
