WORK HISTORY
October 2005 to January 2015 - Associated British Ports (ABP)
PA to Chief Executive and Chairman. ABP is one of the largest ports groups in the UK, owning 21 ports around the
UK, including Southampton and Hull. I joined ABP on a one year contract to cover maternity leave as PA to the
Chairman and General Counsel. The Chairman was also Chair to other companies and I was responsible for
ensuring that diaries were co-ordinated with these companies for Board meetings, AGMs, etc. Other duties included
travel arrangements and message taking, as the Chairman was often out of the office. I maintained his holiday
spreadsheet, as he had a home abroad and members of his family used it on a rota basis during the summer.
My main duties for the General Counsel were filing, handling telephone calls, arranging meetings and typing letters
and memos.
At the time my contract expired, the then Chief Executive’s PA resigned and I was offered and accepted the post, as I
liked working at ABP very much. Over the years my role has expanded to incorporate arranging dinners, corporate
and social events. Guests for these events included MPs, Lords, customers and key members of the industry. This
involved me in sourcing venues, sending out invitations, coordinating replies, ordering food/drinks and at all times
making sure that costs were kept within budget. I also kept absence records for one of our teams, arranged ad hoc

Board meetings, arranged regular update meetings between the Chief Executive and his direct reports, as well as
arranging regular visits for him to all of our ports each month. The Chief Executive has a very busy diary, which I
maintained through extensive use of Outlook.
In 2006, ABP was bought by a consortium and the Chairman left a couple of years after this. A new Chairman was
appointed in 2012 and I was asked to work for him as well as the Chief Executive. My main tasks for the Chairman
included arranging monthly update meetings with key ABP personnel and quarterly update meetings with the
Shareholder directors, as well as visits to each of the ports during the year. As he was only in the office on a
fortnightly basis, I was responsible for handling telephone calls and correspondence and forwarding as necessary.
I was also responsible for submitting expenses for the Chief Executive and Chairman, as well as reconciling the
Statement for the Chief Executive’s company credit card.
After 9 years at ABP, it was great regret that I resigned. My mother was diagnosed with dementia and I needed to
work nearer home in order to take care of her.
December 2004 to September 2005 - Newman Personnel/Manpower Limited
(Temporary Consultants)
Various temporary PA/Secretarial roles, including:
Five months at Smith & Williamson Limited working for a team and also the Chairman.
Two and a half months at Mile End Hospital, working on the Digital Breast Screening Programme.

PA to the Managing Director. Alexander Forbes was one of the largest insurance brokers in London. The Division for
which I worked dealt with insurance to the professional sector (Solicitors, Accountants, Surveyors, Internet Providers
and some Medical). Duties included:
Servicing three Boards.
Ordering and distribution of stationery for Division.
Arranging corporate events.
Diary management, including booking rooms/refreshments as necessary.
Travel arrangements.
Expenses.
Holiday/sickness records for the Management Team.
