3. About Alvar Aalto
• Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto was a Finnish architect and designer.
His work includes architecture, furniture, textiles and glassware,
as well as sculptures and paintings.
• He never regarded himself as an artist, seeing painting and
sculpture as "branches of the tree whose trunk is architecture.
• Architect and Monumental Artist.
• Alvar Aalto was the most powerful and significant Finnish
architect and designer. 200 out 500 buildings was designed by
Alvar Aalto have been built. He worked mostly in International
Style Modernism, where he combined functionality, atmosphere,
simplicity and even national, cultural identity.

The Alvar Aalto House
In the district of Munkkiniemi, Helsinki, the Alvar Alto House was the building
where the famous architect developed most of his life and career. Alvar and Aino Aalto
designed the house at their home and architectural office in 1935-36. The house now serves
as a home museum.

5. Villa Mairea

6. Vyborg Library
• Viipuri Library in Vyborg, Russia was designed and built by
modernist Finnish architect Alvar Aalto between 1927 and 1935.
At the time of construction, the land was held by Finland.
• The library reflects the emergence of Aalto’s distinctive
combination of organic form and materials with the principles
Of clear functionalist expression that was to become the hallmark
of his architecture.
7. Maison Louis Carre Maison Louis Carré is a
residential building in
Bazoches-sur-Guyonne,
France designed by Finnish
modernist architects Elissa
and Alvar Aalto. The house
was designed for art collectors
Olga and Louis Carré, and
completed in 1959. The
building is the only remaining
building by Aalto in France.
8. MUURATSALO EXPERIMENTAL HOUSE
The Experimental house (1952-54) was Elissa
and Alvar Aalto’s self-designed atelier and
summer residence. It was inspired by the idea of
an Ancient Roman atrium. The Experimental
House is located in a beautiful spot on the rocky
shore of Lake Paijanne, sheltered by the coastal
forest.
This is where Aalto had the
freedom to experiment with
different materials, forms,
techniques and proportions.

9. AaltoAlvari
• AaltoAlvari Aquatic Centre is the most popular
sports venue in the city. AaltoAlvari is
designed by the famous architect Alvar Aalto.
• It is a great venue for competitive and
recreational swimming and other water
activities. A specialty in AaltoAlvari is the
senior gym, a gym equipped especially for the
elderly.

the critics’ opinion polls. When it opened in
1988, it was only said to be "the most beautiful
German theatre construction" that had been
built since 1945.
