2. • Due to the fact that we are pitching our music video ideas
this week I have been considering what star image we
want to create for our band. I have been taking into
account the ideas of Negus and Dyer and I have come up
with an idea as to what I want to represent in terms of my
band's ideologies in the music video and generally in the
campaign.
3. • According to Dyer, a star is an image, not a real person, that is
constructed out of a range of materials such as videos, artwork,
performances and media appearances. Stars are commodities
produced and consumed on the strength of their meanings. The sat
image is made up of a range of meanings which are attractive to
the target audiences.
• Stars are represented primarily through the image projected, their
persona. Their personality and characteristics making them
similar/different are created for them by others, and their overall
mage is constructed from many fragmented parts, which may or
may not contradict each other. Fundamentally, the star image is
incoherent, that is incomplete and open. Dyer says that this is
because it is based upon two key paradoxes.
4. This word cloud represent some of the qualities that make up the
bands star image such as them being mundane, outlandish and
representing the values of unity, teamwork and courage.
5. • When applying Dyer's star theory I would say that the
band that we have created represents youthfulness as well
as success against the odds. Additionally I also believe
that they would represent the qualities of originality and
creativity
6. • When applying Negus's theory I would say that our band
is likely to be organic and place more emphasis on their
music rather than their own image and this is why they
stay out of the spotlight.
7. • I would really like the band's star image to be reflected in their
actual physical image and this is why I want them to appear dark and
mysterious for their audiences which would create a curiosity for
their audiences. I would like them all to be wearing dark colours and
appear to be rough around the edges as I believe that this would fit
the genre of music well as well as working harmoniously with the
band's star image.
8. • In terms of the female singer's look and her star image I would say that
she would have an organic image and she would want the focus to be
more about the music and less about her appearance. I would say that she
would be keen to stay out of the spot light and display the values of
stardom such as youthfulness, rebellion, originality, creativity as well as
an anti-authoritarian attitude. This would make her relatable for the
audience although she would also be extraordinary. I envision the artist
to have dark hair and dark eyes although not to look too emo or goth but
more cheeky and fun and a bit rough around the edges.
9. • Despite the fact that the song is of the rock/pop genre I believe that
unlike most artists in this genre our band would be laid back and
slightly reserved as well as being self-conscious instead of being
egotistical.
• I would really like the band's star image to be polysemic meaning
that it can be interpreted in different ways which would allow their
audiences to understand and engage with them much better.
