Treatment of Insomnia by using benzodiazepene related drug........ An over view

2. Insomnia:
 A Sleep disorder mainly associated with psychological
stress, pain, heartburn, hyperthyroidism and certain drugs
such as Caffeine , nicotine and alcohol.
 insomnia could be acute , chronic or transit .
 Usually treated with sedative hypnotics.

3. Mechanism of action:
 BZD Drugs directly act on the GABA receptor ,a
neurotransmitter, that stimulates the release of sleep
chemical “Melatonin’’.

4. Commonly used drugs :
Some commonly used drugs are ;
 Triazolam
 Flurazepem
 Temazepam
 Midazolam
 Estazolam
 Lorazepam
 Nitrazepam

5. Adverse effect:
Over dosage of these drugs especially in patients aged aver
65 may cause;
 Day time drowsiness
 Motor vehicles crashes
 Hip fracture
 Improper dijestion
 Confusions
