 What is transformer ?
 The transformer is electrical device that
transfer electrical energy from one electrical
circuit to another electrical circuit through
magnetic field and without change in
frequency
 It is static device.
 Input and output of transformer are both A.C

Depending upon core and winding arrangment
1. Shell type 2. Core type
CONSTRUCTION
 It consist two highly inductive coil wound on
core
 Winding connected to supply is called primary
winding and other is called secondary

 In between both winding
there is no physical
connection

transformer core is
generally silicon steel
 Core is in form of stack of
laminated thin steel sheets
 Reluctance of core is should
be low

 Whenever the magnetic lines of force linking with a coil
or conductor an emf get induce in the coil or conductor
 Induced emf is directly proportional to rate of change
of flux

single phase A.C supply A.C current start flowing through it
 primary current produce an alternating flux in core
that links with secondary coil through core
 Varying flux induce emf in secondary coil according to
faraday law of EMI

 For maximum value voltage per turn substitute
cos(ωt)=±1
emax = ωϕm
=2пf.ϕm
 To obtain rms value
=√2 пf.ϕm =4.44 f.ϕm
 Let E1 is induced voltage in primary winding with N1
turns
E1= 4.44 f.ϕm N1
 Let E2 is induced voltage in secondary winding
with N2 turns
E2= 4.44 f.ϕm N2
