Louisville Loves Dragon Boat Racing!
In the inaugural 2014 races, 18 teams competed for the title of the first ever
Louisville Dragon Boat Festival Champions. In 2015 we are expecting up to 40 teams,
and do not be surprised if those spots fill up fast!
In case you were not able to make it last year,
you may be wondering,

“The Ultimate Team Sport”
for many reasons.
• Dragon boat racing is the world’s fastest growing water
sport. With annual events held in over 60 countries and
spanning across all 7 continents.
• Dragon boat racing attracts hundreds of thousands of
participants and millions of spectators worldwide.
• The appeal of dragon boating is partly due to the
sport’s ability to accommodate a wide spectrum of skill
levels ranging from novice to competitive.
• At the novice and recreational level, teams often form
as a means of social outlet, team building and an
alternative means of exercise.
• It has become extremely popular as a corporate team
building activity.

DRAGON
BOAT
BASICS
• Dragon Boats are powered by 22 people. That is, 20 paddlers, 1 drummer, and 1
steersman, that must work together to cross the finish line as quickly as possible.
• Races are 300+ meters.
• Each team is guaranteed at least 2-3 races on race day
• Registration also includes: 2 practice sessions, equipment, boat, and
trainer/steersman.
• With up to 25 people per team there is a lot of potential for some seriously fun, and
effective fundraising!
• Teams of 21 (20 paddlers and 1 drummer)
• Each paddler may secure unlimited
pledges in support of their team
beneficiary.
• For Example: If each of the 20 paddlers
get 25 x $10 pledges, that is $5,000!
