To Whom it May Concern:
It is my privilege to write this letter of recommendation for Dr. Muhammad Zahid. I have known
Dr. Zahid for the past two years, through my Harvard CME Course, Principles and Practice of
Clinical Research. This course is an intensive, collaborative course geared toward clinicians and
covers in-depth topics in clinical research methodology.
During Dr. Zahid’s participation in my course, I observed a person who has an extreme curiosity
and love of learning. Dr. Zahid was one of the top students in this highly competitive course, and
had an excellent level of clarity and organization. He was able to communicate ideas and
concepts in the areas of clinical research effectively to his colleagues during the course. Dr.
Zahid’s experience in the clinical research field was certainly a benefit to him in his participation.
He has been a scientist member of the Partners Healthcare Human Research Committee
(Institutional Review Board) since 2008, and has dealt first-hand with common issues in clinical
research of which we discuss in the course. Additionally, he has a very pleasant personality and
I received excellent feedback from his colleagues. As his performance was so strong, I invited
him to be a teaching assistant to the following year of students.
In my interactions with Dr. Zahid, I can affirm that he has a broad spectrum of clinical, research,
and ethics experience. He has expressed to me a strong desire to uplift the standards of human-
subjects research, specifically in protecting rights of research participants. This passion is clear
through his volunteered efforts as a physician member of the Partners IRB for the last 4 years,
and his continuing research ethics education through the National Institutes of Health.
Additionally, he is currently a post-doctoral research associate at Brigham and Women’s
Hospital, with much of his work focused on data and safety monitoring, reporting to the
FDA/NIH, and supervising project managers to ensure all study procedures are being completed
to protocol standards.
Overall, he has a high level of intellect and is a passionate individual. He will certainly be an
asset to any program. With this in mind, I recommend him in the highest terms for his career
advancement
