4. ECO Bricks
Introduction:
Ecobricks are a sustainable way to reuse non-biodegradable plastic waste as
plastic waste is regarded as a long-lasting and durable material for example a
small plastic bottle can take upto 450 years to decompose.
Eco bricks help keeping plastic out of the ecosystem and prevents the
contamination of the environment.
If the plastic waste cannot be decomposed it can at least be managed to
reduce its adverse effects to the ecosystem.
This is the core reason to develop this product.
5. History:
The story of EcoBricks starts in Guatemala, and takes us, via the Philippines,
to South Africa.
Susanna Heisse, an environmental activist in Guatemala developed the first
construction system with Eco bricks in 2003.
She built a wall out of them, which became an inspiration to others around
the world.
This led to one of the first towns in South Africa called Greyton to design
schools, community gardens and an eco village based on this concept.
6. Objectives:
Accumulation of plastic waste can result into hazardous affect to
both human and plant life.
Accumulation of plastic waste is a great threat to our environment.
7. To make use of large hazardous waste plastic into effective manners.
To reduce cost of construction material by using cost effective bricks.
As we know plastic waste cannot be decomposed so we should work towards
managing it smartly.
8. Advantages
It has low cost of production.
It can be use for longer period of time.
It is 26% light weight than conventional bricks.
It is 2.5 times stronger than conventional bricks.
It is very durable than conventional bricks.
These can again be recycled into bricks or other things.
9. It is water resistant, stronger and economical.
Plastic is very good insulator of electricity.
Plastic is a good binder
Difficult to break the bricks
Difficult to make scratch on the bricks.
Using plastic can reduce the need for natural resources.
