2. Salivary Mucocele aka sialocele, salivary cyst,
honey cyst
A salivary mucocele is a collection of saliva that
has leaked from a damaged salivary gland or duct
and is surrounded by granulation tissue
9. Diagnostic Imaging
• Sialography difficult
• Perform cross-sectional imaging to understand better
• Do thoracic radiography if metastasis growth is suspected
10. Laboratory Findings
• Laboratory abnormalities are rare
• Salivary gland function and duct patency can be evaluated by
placing a drop of topical ophthalmic atropine solution on the
tongue to stimulate saliva flow; however, it may be difficult to
distinguish flow from individual ducts
• Aspiration of a clear, yellowish, or blood-tinged, ropy, mucoid
fluid with a low cell count is consistent with saliva. Staining a
smear with a mucus-specific stain such as periodic acid-Schiff
(PAS) confirms the presence of saliva
12. Medically:
• Ineffeicent
• Actual cause not removed
• The fluid is aspirated
• Swelling comes again!
• Anti-inflammatory don’t improve rather comlicates
