4. Prevailing Printing Trends on Garments
Print on garment is the most in-demand option for customizing apparel.
It is one of the most important fields where various techniques are being adopted for value
addition of the garment. Over the last decade, textile printing sector has redefined itself as
the contemporary fashion demand area, but also as driver of the further growth of the textile
industry because of consumers.
After 1980 a number of unconventional printing processes were popularized to make print
fabric for fashionable wear. Some of the printing processes, especially metallic printing,
glitter printing, puff printing, foil printing, plastisol printing are popularly used upon the
garments.
5. Garment Printing and it’s techniques
Printing is the oldest method of textile decoration. It can also be defined as
localized dyeing.
Color designs are produced on fabrics by printing with dyes in paste form or
by positioning dyes on the fabric from especially designed machines.
There are hundred of techniques and experienced designers choose printing
method primarily on the basis of final outcome as design sharpness,
durability, brightness, texture and hand feel.

DIGITAL print
Digital print directly transfer print on garment by ink, it is computer
operated, no need of paper or film
It is ideal printing technique for photos and colorful design which
have gradients
Colors are sprayed on and made durable with hardener. The fabric
can still be felt when touching the design, results in vintage look.
The design looks bit faded

DIGITAL print CONTINUES…
This print does not last long, colors fade over time
Printing process time is longer and can’t be printed
on dark T-shirt with fewer exception
The printer is expensive. But quality of printed T-
shirt is excellent
8. Different Prints Used and Preferred by Consumers
Cotton and other cellulosic fibers are destroyed by strong mineral
acid or their acid salt, this procedure is referred to as BURN OUT
Cotton/polyester blended fabric can be printed with a print paste
containing the burn out chemicals and after fixation, the cotton
portion is destroyed and only the polyester remains. This allows a
decorative design to be imparted on fabric
It is also possible to incorporate disperse dye in burn out paste and
dye the polyester during burn out
This process requires special screens and special care in handling

GLOW IN DARK PRINT
Glow in dark or photo luminous technology is the
process of releasing and absorbing the light
energy.
These prints are visible in dark. It’ll show up very
faintly in daylight.
Glow ink comes in a variety of colors, including
yellow, orange, red, sky blue, aqua, violet and

GEL PRINT
Gel ink is a clear ink that has a smooth or
wet like appearance.
can be used to add a super-glossy shine to
any design.
This ink is usually put on another ink to get
color, because the ink alone is colorless.
This ink is great for water, raindrops, or other
liquid designs
It is applied on dark garments for the best
result.
11. Different Prints used and Preferred by Consumers
FOIL PRINT
Prints with the foil on the fabric for shiny effect.
The effects created with foil is quite stunning and
appealing.
In addition to shiny finishes such as gold and silver,
gloss and matt foils are also available. Foils are
available in Silver, Gold, Bronze, Red and Blue.
It is very much used in fashion garments, kids

PHOTO CHROMIC PRINT
Photochromic means 'ability to change color when exposed to
sunlight'. Photochromic dyes generate dynamic reversible color
change under the sunlight or ultra violet (UV) light in the range of
300 to 360 nanometers
Photo chromic inks are inks which react to UV rays like those from
UV lights or even sunlight.
Almost completely invisible indoors; When clothes are exposed
under sunlight and absorb the ultra violet radiation, they change
colors. When the radiation is removed, the dyes resume their
original shade.

PUFF PRINT
Also known as emboss print or foam print
An additive (heat reactive foaming agent) to Plastisol
ink which raises the print off the garment, creating a
3D feel. In the method when the paste is printed and
dries it look like normal printing garments but once it is
cured the prints gets raised from the surface of fabric.
These prints are raised about one-eighth of an inch
above the print surface.
It is very much used in Kids wear and T-shirts.
14. Different Prints used and Preferred by Consumers
HIGHDENSITY print
Also known as raised prints.
It is done through a process of adding layers of ink on top of one another to create
depth with innovative, 3D graphics of any color.
It is a popular special effect that rises straight up off the shirt and has a hard
rubbery feel with sharp edges.
This print has slight glossy finish
This process is very slow but end product is unique
15. Different Prints Used and Preferred by Consumers
FLOCKprint
This process involves printing of glue on fabric first ,applying the fiber flock
on the gel printed by keeping the fabric on special table (electro statistically
charged)
The diameter of the individual flock strand is only a few thousandths of a
centimeter, and ranges in length from 0.25 - 5 mm
It requires a little high time for curing than normal prints.120s @160 degree
will be sufficient for curing
16. Different Prints Used and Preferred by Consumers
GLITTER print
The fashion industry flocks glitter into fabric for shimmering
effect and glamorous garments.
glitter is made up of tiny pieces of aluminum foil, iron oxides,
bismuth oxychloride, copolymer plastics, and other types of
materials.
Glitters add on the garment with paste and fixed by heat on a
specific area. It is applied by screen printing process.
Usually available in Gold or Silver but can be mixed to made
most colors.

Crack print is a printing method to produce attractive design on fabric
surface
Here rubber is use as printing paste
It is near similar as rubber printing process but additional crack paste
is used before applying rubber printing paste by screen printer
After curing, design seems like crack and that's why its called crack
print
CRACK print
18. Different Prints Used and Preferred by Consumers
STICKER print
This is ready to transfer print
The plastisol print is already printed on paper and
will be transferred on to garment in the fusing
process
Heat applied material contain a heat sensitive
adhesive on one side. when heat is applied by heat
press to the material, the material adheres to which
it is being applied. The end result is decorated
garment
The main advantage of this print is less expensive.
19. Different Prints Used and Preferred by Consumers
PLASTISOL print
more widely used.
Plastisol ink is used in garment and clothing printing industry, popular for screen
printing t-shirts.
It can be used on all type of textile material and easy to print on a dark background.
Screen printing with plastisol ink is probably the most common way to decorate
garments.
There are a few strong advantages to working with plastisol such as it doesn't dry
out in the screens. It is also thick, so it is ideal for printing on dark garments.
Clear graphic detail with more plasticized texture
20. Different Prints Used and Preferred by Consumers
DISCHARGE print
Used to print lighter colors onto dark background fabrics, they work by removing the
dye already present in the garment
This gives much softer texture
This penetrate the fabric more than the plastisol ink and create a much softer feel
Useful for larger area of print where texture is important
PIGMENT print
