ME AS AN ATHLETE
Teacher, I think I want to be an athlete because by being an
athlete, I can learn how to know myself better and improve myself.
By taking part in sports, I discover aspects about myself and later,
I get to work on my weaknesses so that I can be a better person.
First, I get to know who I am. Am I a person who will give up
easily or will I keep on trying even when I do not win? Am I a team-
player or do I perform better alone? These are among the things
that I will be able to figure out by participating in sports. As an
athlete, there are a lot of things to do before, during and after
taking part in a tournament. A lot of decisions must be made as
the schedule is always packed. I get to know whether I am able to

3. make good decisions or not. Can I prioritize training over hanging
out with my friends? Will I be able to make sacrifices for other
people? I need this opportunity to learn about myself so that I
lead a more meaningful life. I think being an athlete can help me to
do so since it requires a lot of skills and knowledge.
Second, I want to be an athlete so that I can improve myself.
The first aspect of improvement is my physical strength. By being
an athlete, I must eat healthily and train hard so that I am in the
best condition to play sports. I must learn how to keep myself fit.
The second aspect is improvement of my inner strength. It is quite
expected of an athlete to be stressed because no athlete wants to
lose but a good athlete will find ways to manage with stress. I will
work on my discipline and keep on practising until I acquire the
perfect techniques. This helps me to have patience and grit. The
competition, stress and expectations are scary but these will help

4. me to surpass myself and push back my limits.
In conclusion, I believe that playing sports can and should
be about more than just having fun. Through sports, I can learn
amazing life lessons and develop valuable personal traits that will
translate to success throughout my life .I like to be an athlete
because participating in sports teach me about honesty, teamwork
acceptance and sportsman spirit. Being a student-athlete will make
me feel like an all -rounder , thus increasing my self-confidence.
I hope I can be an athlete.
