2. Private Victory
• So far we have covered the Private Victory:
– You must have your personal self together before
you can be a good team player.
– Habits 4, 5, and 6 are the PUBLIC VICTORY, dealing
with relationships and teamwork
4. THINK WIN-WIN
• HABIT 4: says EVERYONE can win.
• You might say that’s silly, it might be that way
at school or sports, but not in relationships.
• How silly would it be to say “who’s winning in
your relationship--you or your friend?”
6. LOOK and READ out loud together
• The four paradigms on page 22
• EACH table (pairs) pick a paradigm and come
up with a scenario that demonstrates it.
• Share
7. READ
• Page 155-156
• Discuss, what is a tumor twin?
8. Win-win all you can eat buffet packet
• Read pages 152-154
• Complete the worksheet
• Turn it in, then complete “cool stuff to
remember”
9. Seek first to be understand, then to be
understood
• Listen first, talk second
• Its about seeing things from another person’s
point of view
10. Habit 5
• Is the key to communication and having power
and influence with people.
11. • To really understand others we have to listen
to more than what they say.
• We have to pay attention to their actions
• Look at the next slide as an example
13. • Only 7 percent of our communication is
through words…
• Most of our communication is through body
language.
14. 14
Steps to Genuine Listening
1 Listen with your
eyes, heart,
and ears.
2 Stand in their
shoes.
3 Practice
mirroring.
14
15. Higher form of listening
• Involves listening with your eyes, heart, and
ears…
• LOOK at the person talking to you, be open to
what they are saying. USE more than just your
ears!
16. Stand in another's shoes.
• Many people look at conversations as a
competition,
– Its my point of view or yours
• We can’t both be right. But in reality, we can
be. You don’t win or loose at conversations.
• When you take time to stand in the other
person’s shoes genuine listening can start
happening.
17. Mirroring
• A mirror reflects.
– It doesn't judge, or give advice
• IT IS THE PERFECT LISTENER
• You don’t necessarily repeat what they say,
but show you understood by repeating their
meaning in your own words.
18. 18
Mimicking vs. Mirroring
Mimicking Is: Mirroring Is:
Repeating words. Repeating meaning.
Using the same words. Using your own words.
Cold and indifferent. Warm and caring.
19. Thinking about your communication
• Complete the “Communicating with your
parents” Page
• Complete the Genuine Listening paper and
hand in. READ PAGES 171-176
• Then FILL out the “ COOL STUFF TO
REMEMBER” page. Hand in completed
packet.
20. SYNERGIZE!
• Synergize is about valuing and celebrating
differences.
• Knowing that people can work together to
create better solutions than they can alone.
• It’s NOT my way or the “highway”
21. IN PAIRS
• Come up with 5 things you have in common
and 5 differences
• List them on your paper
22. Synergy
• Doesn’t just happen. It’s a process.
• Once you understand that differences are a
strength and not weakness, and celebrating
those leads to finding the “highway”
• Read through the “action plan”
23. 23
