This is about designing effective messages in the process of communication and this slide also talks about how message is important in a particular communication

Message designing for effective communication
1.
2. Introduction
According to lass well model of communication the process of
communication takes place like below
The above model speaks that there are five
elements involved in in a communication
process . The elements are
• Who?- Source
• Says What?- Message/ Content
• In which channel?- Medium
• To whom?- Receiver/ Audience
• With what effect?- Impact
3. Why these elements Are Important?
Source is Important because it is the origin point of
any communication
Channel or Medium is Important because it is the
carrier of any communication
Audience or Receiver is important because the
message is meant for the receiver
Effect or impact is important because depending upon
it the effectiveness of a communication process is
decided.
4. Effective Communication
Effective communication is basically a communication in
which the message reaches in its original form to the
receiver.
Encoding and decoding of the message takes place
successfully which means the decoding and encoding of a
message is with same meaning.
The area of experience of the receiver and the source
matches.
Expected impact takes place at the audience end.
5. Message is important because:
It communicates the purpose of the source to receiver
It helps in getting the job done
It helps in establishing a communication between source
and receiver
Effectively designed message with proper encoding and
decoding helps for a successful communication
As content is the king that is why properly designed
message increases the attractiveness of a communication
process
6. Effective Message Designing
Message designing is dependent upon the critical understanding of the
encoding and decoding process
Encoding: In a communication process, the sources before
communicating gets some ideas then he/ she transfers it into certain
codes according to his knowledge. This process is called encoding.
Decoding: The receiver after receiving the message tries to break the
codes or decode the codes to get meaning from it.
The encoding and decoding depends upon the cultural background of
the source and receiver
Thus the cultural background of source and receiver should be taken
into consideration
7. Continued…
Message designing is also dependent upon the medium.
The message must be designed according to the
properties of the medium.
If the basic grammar of the medium is not understood,
then it will create problem in encoding and decoding.
While preparing the message for a particular medium,
factors like time and space should be taken into
consideration.
8. Evaluating Effectiveness
While evaluating the effectiveness of a message the following aspects must
be taken into consideration
Message is designed according to of the cultural background of particular
audience.
Receiver’s ability of comprehension is taken care properly
Message is presented in an attractive format matching to the taste of the
audience
In required cases pilot study is done.
Finally impact analysis can reveal the effectiveness of a message.
The objectives of the message are clear.
The message is capable to hit the target directly
The message is designed in a format with which the audience is familiar.
