INTERNET OF THINGS
2. 2. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical objects or "things" embedded
with electronics, software, sensors and connectivity to enable it to achieve greater value
and service by exchanging data with the manufacturer, operator and/or other connected
devices.
3. IoT is expected to offer advanced connectivity of devices, systems, and services that
goes beyond machine-to-machine communications (M2M) and covers a variety of
protocols, domains, and applications.
1. As of 2014 the vision of the Internet of Things has evolved due to a convergence of
multiple technologies, ranging from wireless communication to the Internet and from
embedded systems to micro-electromechanical systems(MEMS).This means that the
traditional fields of embedded systems, wireless sensor networks, control systems ,
automation (including home and building automation), and others, all have contributions
to enable the Internet of Things (IoT).
3. • Nod Nod transforms your movements into commands. It brings the world around you
to life, as you control everything from your laptop to your living room lights with a
wave of your hand.
• Smart Gardening Bitponics gives data on plants and conditions surrounding them for
better gardening.
• Smart A/C Aros learns from your budget, location, schedule, and usage to
automatically maintain the perfect temperature and maximize savings for your home.
• HAPIfork The HAPIfork is an electronic fork that helps you monitor and track your
eating habits. It also alerts you with the help of indicator lights and gentle vibrations
when you are eating too fast.
• Environmental monitoring applications of the IoT typically utilize sensors to assist in
environmental protection by monitoring air or water quality , atmospheric or soil
conditions, and can even include areas like monitoring the movements of wildlife and
their habitats.
4. • My interest of the topic is in application of enviromental monitoring which utilizes
sensors for enviromental protection.
• Development of resource constrained devices connected to the Internet for
enviromental monitoring includes other applications like earthquake or tsunami early-
warning systems can also be used by emergency services to provide more effective
aid. IoT devices in this application typically span a large geographic area and can also
be mobile.
• There are services to detect tsunami, earthquakes etc. beforehand but I would like to
improve these services so that the loss of life would be decreased.
•If the project is given in this area I would like to work on remote sensing and tsnami
and earthquake warning systems.
