5. FIVE PILLARS OF ISLAM

Apostle of God” this is the assertion of Unitarian monotheism that is
crucial to Islam
• Prayer (salat) each muslim is supposed to perform the required ritual
prayers five times a day
• Fasting (sawm). Muhammad received his first revelation in the month of
Ramadan, in commemoration of this month, Muslims are required to fast
during daylight hours throughout the month.
• Alms giving (Zakat) the Qur’an commands all believers to practice regular
charity (Sura 2:43)
• Pilgrimage (Hajj), if all possible, a Muslim should visit Mecca at least once
6. Worldview- what is reality
• Allah is the only true God, he is unapproachable by sinful man.
Muslim desire is to submit to a point where he can hold his hands of
judgment and inherit eternal life in a heavenly paradise often pictured
in terms of food, wine and sexual pleasure.
• Allah is sovereign, distant and angry but can forgive (Sura 11:90)
• God has no likeness (Sura 42:11), transcendent (Sura 4:171) and
unknowable except by revelation
• Abrogation is essentially allowed (Sura 2:100/106)
• No holy spirit but angel Gabriel
7. Biblical response

omniscience

separates him with people (Romans 8:14-15)
• Man is created in the likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-28)
• Jesus is the incarnate son of God (John 3:16)
• The holy spirit is the third person of the trinity (Acts 1:8)
8. Human nature- Islam
• God made man in his spiritual Image (Man is not in the image of God)
• Man is born sinless but weak and forgetful of God’s laws
• All people (except Jesus and some prophets) commit sin and when
they repent, they are forgiven
• Every good and evil action is a result of God’s predestination, those
whom he guides fulfills his requirements
• Man suffers from temptation and doubts whispered by Satan. His
activity is not a result of sin
9. Human nature- Christianity
• God made man in his own spiritual image, with his attribute so that
man can fellowship with God (Genesis 1: 26-28) man is capable of
being aware of God’s presence, having moral consciousness, ability to
love, laugh, create and communicate
• Man has inherited sin from Adam (Romans 5:14, 1Cor. 15:22) and for
this reason man is inclined to sinning
• Man has misconception about God’s requirement
• Man is by nature a hopeless sinner, unable to comply with God’s
righteous requirement
10. After death- Islam
• Believes in resurrection, devote of Allah will end up in
heaven which is depicted with a lot of pleasure, food,
wine and sex. However for the non-Muslim they will
end up in hell.
• However there isn’t any clear basis for resurrection
like the Christian claims.
• There is the concept of Judgment after death on the
basis of ones work
11. After death- Christianity
• Its appointed for men once to die and after that face
Judgment (Hebrews 9:27). The Biblealso teaches
about resurrection of all but some to everlasting joy
while other s to everlasting contempt
• The basis for Christian claim on resurrection is on the
ground the Christ was raised from the dead(1Cor
15:12)

failure to do that means being on the wrong side.

eternal life and punishment for unbelief with
