3. How are traits controlled with co-dominant alleles? In co-dominant alleles, the alleles are neither dominant nor recessive.

5. Genetic Disorders Compare and contrast the three different types of genetic disorders: 1. Single gene disorder- a genetic condition caused by the alteration or mutation of a specific gene in the affected person’s DNA. This can be passed down. (Sickle Cell Anemia, Cystic Fibrosis, Tay Sachs Disease) 2. Chromosome abnormalities- reflects an abnormality of chromosome number or structure. There are many types of chromosome abnormalities. They can be organized by two groups, Numerical Abnormalities and structural abnormalities. (Down syndrome: Trisomies 13 and 18, Turner syndrome, Triple X) 3. Multifactorial disorders- is caused by the interaction of genetic and non genetic factors along with the environment factors. (heart disease, diabetes, and obesity) These three types of disorders can all be caused by different things. One thing that it can be caused by is a mutation in a person’s genes. How can genetic counseling help perspective parents who have a genetic disorder regarding future children? That you should consider getting pregnant more than average people. How are karyotypes used to predict genetic disorders? The karyotypes describe the number of chromosomes. If their length, or any other physical characteristics about them is different, then it is a sign of a disorder.
6. Argument 1 Designer babies is a way that you can engineer your baby to get it to have the traits you want. One reason why we are against designer babies is that just by making babies smarter, does that mean that they will be happy? The Boston Universtiy’sAnnas says, “ Just by making our children smarter, does that mean that we will be making them happy? Children with Down’s syndrome are happy, however though, many smart people aren’t.
7. Argument 2 Another reason we are against designer babies is because Human advancement says “Genetics can’t ensure anything, especially when it comes to personality. Personality, more than anything else, is the result of a complex interplay between genetics and environmental factors.” So here is an example… Mr. and Mrs. Jones want a baby. They visit a fertility clinic and announce: “We want a boy—blond hair and blue eyes, please. We want him to be at least six feet tall, good at sports and have great musical ability.”“No sweat,” the doctor says. Nine months later, baby Logan is born. But for Logan’s parents, things don’t work out quite the way they expected. Despite his outstanding physique, Logan has no interest in sports. He likes to write poetry instead. As for music—yes, he’s good at it, his genes have seen to that—but he’d much rather spend his time designing model airplanes. This prove there's no guarantee that designing your babies personality can get you as you please, you a regular child can express their personality as they please designer babies might be programmed to love or hate something but it may never show.
8. Argument 3 Well designer babies are very expensive and can cost around $19000 . Cloning your child would be expensive too. This is a very expensive cost and its unfair to other kids because your child might be smarter because you bought there smart genes and they and are not being their true selves. Here is a video link supporting our side…. http://science.discovery.com/videos/brink-news-designer-babies.html
9. Argument 4 The last reason why we are against designer babies is that if will cause Genetic engineering. It will have a negative impact to our society. Designer babies concept, will lead to discrimination on the basis of certain qualities or traits. For example, kids that live in a rich family will get genetic enhancement, leading to genetic aristocracy. This will be unfair to the other families who don’t have that much money. People unable to afford genetic engineering will be looked down upon. This is something that you should not play with. If there is a mistake, it can alter the lives of many generations. Meaning, it can hurt the offspring’s offspring. This mutation can lead to a virus or a disease.
10. Argument 1 "It's the ultimate shopping experience: designing your baby," says biotechnology critic Jeremy Rifkin, who is appalled by the prospect. "In a society used to cosmetic surgery and psychopharmacology, this is not a big step.“ It’s true it is definitely exciting to get to pick your babies traits. You can chose you babies gender, personality, physical traits such as sports ability, and appearance.
11. Argument 2 http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4840229n&tag=related;photovideo "I would predict that by next year, we will have determined sex with 100 percent certainty on a baby, and we will have determined eye color with about an 80 percent accuracy rate," said fertility specialist Dr. Jeff Steinberg, director of Fertility Institute. This is great news even though you might only be able to have the gender 100% sure the technology in the future will help control there persinality.
12. Argument 3 Designer babies will help by not carrying disease’s because you are selecting the genes for the child so no genetic disorders are possible. Some genetic disorders are Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle cell disease, Hemophilia, and Down Syndrome.
13. Argument 4 The last reason why designer babies aren’t bad is because genetic screening can also help prevent babies being born with genetic disorders such as Down Syndrome, Famial hypercholesterolemia, and rare blood disorders such as Diamond BlackfanAnaemia. For example, Adam Nash was the world's first known designer baby born by the revolutionary pre-implantation process in the year 2000. Scientists genetically selected his embryo so that he would possess the right cells to save his dying sister's life. His sister suffered from Fanconi'sanaemia (blood disorder), and Adam had a very high chance of being diagnosed with Fanconi'sanaemia as well. In order for Adam to not have the disease, an embryo was chosen that didn’t have the disease in it, and Adam became a donor to his sister. Giving her the embryo, it gave her doubled the chance of her surviving.
14. Pedigree A Pedigree is a chart or “Family Tree” that tracks which member of a family have a particular trait.
16. Comments Caitlin Neier… I am against Designer Babies. You should have a baby out of nature, not creating your baby. Marie Avallone… Totally against because in a while it will be like a Robot World! Kelly Cohen… I'm against it. It’s too expensive. It’s bad for harsh times like this. Patty Neier… I am against Designer Babies because eventually everyone will all be the same, we will not have our own natural qualities.
17. Conclusion We personally are against the making of designer babies because it does not fit in with nature and doesn’t let the living human being express its true traits and let nature be.
