Basic Principles Of Genetic <ul><li>Well, the dominant alleles when present masks the recessive alleles so the only time you can see the recessive alleles is when the dominant allele is not present. </li></ul><ul><li>Neither are dominant or recessive so it shows up as a combination of both. </li></ul><ul><li>Each of the parents sex cells have exactly half of the regular number of genes. We are basically copies of out parents. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Human Genome Project <ul><li>The project started 1990. The goal was to identify all the approximately 20,00-25,000 genes in human. It also improved tools for data analysis DNA. It stores this information in database. It determines the sequence of 3 billion chemicals base pair that made up human DNA. </li></ul><ul><li>Americans are free to undergo genetics testing's for disease such as cancer, heart diseases, and diabetes. Researchers in the field of behavioral genetics have asserted claims for a genetic basis of numerous physical behaviors, including homosexuality, aggression, impulsivity and nurturing. </li></ul><ul><li>The laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of genetic info with respect to health insurance and employment. </li></ul>

Genetic Disorders <ul><li>A single gene disorder is when a single gene has a defect which then affects the rest of there development. </li></ul><ul><li>Multifactorial disorders are normally caused by mutations in multiple genes, which may interact with environmental factors. </li></ul><ul><li>Chromosome abnormalities occurs when there is a missing chromosome or there is an extra. </li></ul><ul><li>They all are genetic disorders. They all have to do with a single gene being damaged or missing. </li></ul><ul><li>With genetic counseling parents with genetic disorders can see the possibility that their child will have a genetic disorder or in heredity diseases. </li></ul><ul><li>You test your self using genetic counseling and then you see your number, size and structure of your chromosomes which is your karyotype. </li></ul>
  5. 5. Argument 1 <ul><li>Pros.- </li></ul><ul><li>There are less chances that the child will be born with serious diseases because scientists genetically create the embryo with the right cells. Genetic engineering reduces and sometimes eliminates the chances of inheriting defects and genetic diseases. Parents get exactly the gender of baby that they want . Some people want to create their baby in a specific way, such as hair and eye color. The rather then shorts, faster rather then slower. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Argument 1 <ul><li>Cons- </li></ul><ul><li>It reduces genetic variability which might actually increase the chances of genetic diseases for children of these designer babies. Many genes variation make it less likely to have a gene mutation. The more changes in genetic pool creates genetic drifts this is the effect of random changes in human genes. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Argument 2 <ul><li>Con- </li></ul><ul><li>If we accept designer baby, it may have negative impact on the society. People with genetic defects may be rejected soon in society. And those who would not have enough money for genetic designer babies will be looked down upon. This may cause gender discrimination all over the world. Is it really worth doing these mutations? Maybe we will at last take people and the world as who they are and will change ourselves and our traits of characters rather than the gender of our children and making attempts to eliminate natural defects?&quot; </li></ul>
  8. 8. Argument 3 <ul><li>Con- </li></ul><ul><li>China and India already have a gender in balance. They value boy more highly then girls. Clone will tip the scales even father by making the outcome assured to have boys. This generation has already seen a decline in girls. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Argument Four <ul><li>Con- </li></ul><ul><li>In the United States as many family want boys as well as girls, so gender in balance is unlikely. American families however want first born boy. First born children tend to be more dominant no matter hat the sex is. This would create strong mind and willed. First born could make it harder to get rid of stereotype. </li></ul>
  10. 11. Summary <ul><li>Where will we stop: gender eye, color, hair, skin. Humans’ want perfection will we try to create humans without disorders. Doing so, we create or lessen our rich diversity. DNA makes up our genetics, but genetics also creates beauty in our differences. </li></ul>
