2. Gen 5
5:1 This is the written account of Adam's line.
When God created man, he made him in the likeness of God.
2 He created them male and female and blessed them. And
when they were created, he called them "man."
3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own
likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth. 4 After
Seth was born, Adam lived 800 years and had other sons and
daughters. 5 Altogether, Adam lived 930 years, and then he
died.
6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father of
Enosh. 7 And after he became the father of Enosh, Seth lived
807 years and had other sons and daughters. 8
Altogether, Seth lived 912 years, and then he died.
9 When Enosh had lived 90 years, he became the father of
Kenan.

Altogether, Enosh lived 905 years, and then he died.
12 When Kenan had lived 70 years, he became the father of
Mahalalel. 13 And after he became the father of
Mahalalel, Kenan lived 840 years and had other sons and
daughters. 14 Altogether, Kenan lived 910 years, and then
he died.
15 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father
of Jared. 16 And after he became the father of
Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and
daughters. 17 Altogether, Mahalalel lived 895 years, and
then he died.
18 When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of
Enoch. 19 And after he became the father of Enoch, Jared
lived 800 years and had other sons and daughters. 20
Altogether, Jared lived 962 years, and then he died.
21 When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of
Methuselah.
4. 22 And after he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch
walked with God 300 years and had other sons and
daughters. 23 Altogether, Enoch lived 365 years. 24 Enoch
walked with God; then he was no more, because God took
him away. 25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he
became the father of Lamech. 26 And after he became the
father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other
sons and daughters. 27 Altogether, Methuselah lived 969
years, and then he died.
28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. 29 He
named him Noah and said, "He will comfort us in the labor
and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD
has cursed." 30 After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years
and had other sons and daughters. 31 Altogether, Lamech
lived 777 years, and then he died.
32 After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of
Shem, Ham and Japheth.
5. What important legacy a father
can give to his Children?
Let us review or see the examples of the OT and
NT fathers in order for us to know the most
important legacy a Father can ever give to his
Children.
6. OT Fathers
Profile:
Name: Adam (means Man)
Created in the image of God and His own likeness
Wife: Eve
Occupation: Care taker of the Garden of Eden (Gen. 2:15)
Fired, then became a farmer (Gen 3:19)
His children inherited his occupation (Gen 4:24)
Children: Cain, Abel, Seth and many others who are not
mentioned in the Bible. (that also includes the wives
of His sons)
God’s Covenant with Him: To be fruitful and increase in
number. Authority over all creation
Lived: 930 Years
7. Profile:
Name: Noah (Rest, Relief) (Movement)
He was righteous and blameless and walked
with God (Gen 6:9)
Wife: Unknown
Occupation: Probably a farmer. Engineer, foreman and
carpenter (He build the ark)
Children: Shem, Ham and Japheth
God’s Covenant with Him: To be fruitful and increase in
number. Authority over all creation (Gen 9:1-2,7)
Sign: Rainbow
Lived: 950 years
8. Profile:
Name: Abram (exalted father)/Abraham (Father of a
multitude)
Declared righteous because of his faith in
God.
Wife: Sarai/Sarah
Occupation: Missionary
Children: Ishmael, Isaac, (and Lot his nephew or
adopted son)
God’s Covenant with Him: To greatly increase in
number (Gen. 17:20). He will be the
father of many nations (Gen. 17:4)
Sign: Circumcision
Lived: 175 years
9. NT Fathers
Profile:
Name: Zechariah (Jehovah remembers)
“…upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s
Commandments and regulations blamelessly” (Luke1:6)
Wife: Elizabeth (the Cousin of Mary the Mother of Jesus) a Barren
woman.
Occupation: Priest (Luke 1:5)
Father of: John the Baptist
Covenant: God will give him a Child and be named John who will
prepare the way for the Lord. (Luke 1:11-17)
Lived: Unknown
In Luke 1:80 John “grew and became Strong in Spirit”
Why did he become strong in spirit?
10. Deuteronomy 11: 19-21;
“19 Teach them to your children, talking about
them when you sit at home and when you walk
along the road, when you lie down and when you
get up. 20 Write them on the doorframes of your
houses and on your gates, 21 so that your days and
the days of your children may be many in the land
that the LORD swore to give your forefathers, as
many as the days that the heavens are above the
earth.”

Same with John, the Lord Jesus also “grew and became
strong, filled with wisdom …”(Luke 2:40,52)

13. God chose these Men to carry out His
purpose for Man and His creation because
of their faith in Him. They became the
forefathers of the Israelites and most of all
the ancestors or the lineage of Christ
because of their obedience and faithfulness
to HIM.
Their names and its meaning played a
very important rule in God’s redemptive
work. And through them the Messiah came
