This document provides a summary of Forster Steel Profile Systems. It discusses the benefits of steel, outlines Forster's system range including non-fire, fire integrity only, and fire integrity and insulation systems. It also covers fittings for fire doors, fire classifications/ratings, and innovations like automatic sliding doors. The Thermfix Vario system is highlighted, offering profiles in steel and stainless steel tested for fire integrity, insulation, air permeability, water tightness, and other standards.

The Benefits of steel
Strength –
Steel offers much higher mechanical strength
(or modulus elasticity), eg, it is 3 times
stronger than aluminium
Profiles –
Smaller profiles can be offered due to its
strength, or allow increased sizes & large
unsupported areas to be achieved
5. 4/09
Fire –
Steel offers complete fire protection for integrity
and insulation requirements, especially for large
area glazed doors, screens and curtain walls
Life span –
Steel is far more damage resistant and low
maintenance than other materials
Innovation –
New product developments in thermal insulation,
lowering `u` values for steel profiles

Handles
Fire
Lever handles must be fire rated by
recognised testing house or Certifire
approved.
Best practice - they should also meet
EN 179 standard
21. 4/09
FIRE AWARENESS - BEWARE
Use only tested/assessed components
You must use a lever handle on rebated doors
Use tested/assessed locking & closing devices
Conform to the required number of latching points
Use anti-panic locks/systems if doors are means of escape
Observe maximum door leaf &/or glass max sizes
All fire doors must be self closing & latching (except Forster AFT/DAD)
With curtain walling other regulations may have to be met (thermal or
weather tests)
