15. say hello to our past
Motorola started in Chicago, Illinois , as Galvin
Manufacturing Corporation (at 847 West Harrison Street) in
1928 by brothers Paul V. Galvin and Joseph E. Galvin
The company's first products were
battery-eliminators, devices that
enabled battery-powered radios to
operate on household electricity.
Beginning in 1958, with Explorer
1 Motorola provided radio
equipment for most NASA
space-flights for decades,
including during the 1969 moon
landing.
Motorola went public in 1943, and
became Motorola, Inc. in 1947. At
that time Motorola's main business
was producing and selling
televisions and radios.
In 1973, Motorola
demonstrated the first
hand-held portable
telephone.
Paul Galvin wanted a
brand name for Galvin
Manufacturing
Corporation's new car
radio, and created the
name “Motorola” by
linking "motor" (for
motorcar) with "ola"
(from Victrola )

27. Project Ara It was a modular smartphone project under development by Google.
The project was originally headed by the
Advanced Technology and Projects team within Motorola Mobility while it was a Google subsidiary. Google retained the ATAP group when
selling Motorola to Lenovo, and it was placed under the stewardship of the Android development staff; Ara was later split off as an
independent operation.Under its original design, Project Ara was supposed to consist of hardware modules providing common smartphone
parts, such as processors, displays, batteries, and cameras, as well as modules providing more specialized components, and "frames" that these
modules were to be attached to. This design would allow a device to be upgraded over time with new capabilities and upgraded without
requiring the purchase of an entire new device, providing a longer lifecycle for the device and potentially reducing electronic waste. However,
by 2016, the concept had been revised, resulting in a base phone with non-upgradable core components, and modules providing supplemental
features.

of science,
technology,
engineering, and math
(STEM), the Motorola
Solutions Foundation
will grant $3.35
million in grants to
women and minority
students.
3.Motorola Solutions
is committed to the
communities where we
live and work. More
than 3,200 employees
around the world

hours to their
communities last year,
serving as mentors,
tutors, firefighters,
science fair judges and

such as the National
Organization of Black
Law Enforcement

the public.
CSR
30. 4.The Chicago Vocational
Career Academy (CVCA), for
instance, is a mentorship
program between our
employees and students where
students are challenged to
develop products to help
strengthen their communities.
One idea that came to fruition
was a bear that records and
sends a child's vital signs to
parents and alerts first
responders if there's a problem.
Aside from educating students
on the ways they can help their
communities, the program also
exposes them to the field of
public safety in a positive light.
5.Since its inception in
January 2016, Project
Green Light has resulted
in a 40-percent decrease
in violent crime (e.g.,
carjackings, shootings,
robberies) at Detroit’s
Project Green Light
locations.
6.Motorola
Solutions
Foundation also
donates millions of
dollars to science,
technology,
engineering and
math education as
well as public safety
programs and
disaster relief each
year.
