2. Introduction
● Group of biological structures closely work with
nervous system
● *Ductless
● Well supplied of blood vessels
● Secrete *harmones direct to bloodstream
1) *Duct - channels in which harmons secret their
secretions.
2
4. 1. Pituitary glands - master glands
● Its secretes control over; Adrenal, Thyroid, Gonads
● Half inch diameter but control wide range of body
functions
● Lies in base of brain just below hypothalamus
● Secrete growth hormone Important in physical
development
● Deficiency of its secretions results Dwarfism 4
5. 2. Thyroid glands
● Lies side of Adam’s Apple, secrets hormones -
thyroxine
● Conjunction with pituitary, affect metabolism and
physical growth
● High thyroid output and Low thyroid outputs
● Affect structure and function of nervous system
● Hypothyroidism - Cretinism in children 5
7. 3. Adrenal glands
● Lies upper end of both kidneys
● Endocrine Adrenal cortex secrete hormones play
important role in salt and carbohydrate metabolism
● In injury to this part treated by these hormones
● Adrenal medulla Not true endocrine
● Epinephrine - prepare body for emergency work, fast
heart beat 7
8. 4th. The Pancreas
● Situated under the stomach
● It has Insulin hormone to maintain the level of blood
sugar
● When insulin decreases (liver releases sugar high)
● When insulin increases stored in liver (sugar low)
● When insulin produce insufficiently it enters through
kidneys and controlled by Injection of Insulin 8
9. 5th. The Gonads
● Testis for male and Ovaries for female
● Male hormones (Androgen) & female hormones
(estrogen)
● Secondary sex characteristics are features that
appear during puberty in humans(features such as
pubic hair, breast development in females, and
beards in males.)
9
10. 10
● Progesterone, important in Menstrual Cycle and in
maintaining the uterus in a quiet state during
development of the fetus during pregnancy.
Abnormal Functioning:
Disturbance in glands causes a change in behavior
Like consider thyroid glands
Hormones for thyroid glands are thyroxin
When there is deficiency of thyroxine in human body;
It cause changes in human body
What changes???
1)Low Metabolism
2)lower the Activeness
3)Swell or puffy skin
4)Nimb brain (dumb brain) can't think like as healthy do
So, person become lazy and forgetful
Sexual hormones Changes:
Adrenaline is a hormone produced by Adrenal Glands
Adrenal Glands causes a change in Sex hormones
They are 2 caps on kidneys
Inner one is Medulla (produces Adrenaline)
Outer one is Cortex (a large number of chemicals)
So, when Cortex overproduce male hormones in Women;
male like appearance may result; unwanted hair growth on body
Medulla secretes a chemical substance called adrenaline
Adernaline is like AutonimicNervousSystem
It affects your whole body organs like muscles, heart rate, BP, stress
Gonads Effect:
Hormones secreted by the Gonads are the sex hormones
But these sex hormones bring doesn’t make huge effect on human
But on lower animals
As human sex behavior is less tied to this hormone
So, it may affect sexual behavior of human or may not.
