1) Smoking is linked to tobacco and was originally used by Native Americans, but spread worldwide during imperialism as many governments relied on tobacco tax revenue.
2) Tobacco smoking causes numerous health issues like lung cancer, heart disease, and other cancers due to chemicals like tar and nicotine. It increases blood pressure and negatively impacts fetal development.
3) Tobacco kills over 6 million people worldwide annually, draining $500 billion from the global economy. Banning tobacco advertisements and prohibiting smoking in public places in many countries has helped reduce smoking, but stronger implementation of laws is still needed.

Anti-Tobacco: Individual & Global Challenge
1. Anti-Tobacco
Today’s World Community all of us know face various menaces like Terrorism, unemployment, economic crises,
nuclear weaponry and global warming. But in addition to these world fraternity has to face two more challenges
both at individual as well as international level, these are aids and smoking.
Smoking as we know is associated with tobacco though Tobacco was believed to
be a medicinal plant by Native Americans but the Arawak people of Caribbean
countries smoked it through a tube as reported by Christopher Columbus in 1492.
During the period of imperialism the trade of the trade of Tobacco spread
throughout the world and gained much importance. Many Govts. Ever today rely
on the revenue raised from Tobacco products. But as we know smoking is
injurious to our health. WE should not shut our eyes and should not give a deaf Tobacco Plant ear
ear to this warning. As revealed by several medical reports. Tobacco smoking is linked with lung cancer and
cardio vascular Diseases. Tobacco causes cancer causing chemicals like Tar, Phenol, Cresol, Nickel, Polonium,
Vivinylchloride and Polynuclear hydrocarbons. In addition to it, it contains Nicotine that stimulates the smoking.
Tobacco smoking causes cancer of lungs, food-pipe, larynx, stomach etc. It increases the Blood Pressure and
intake of carbon monoxide affects the affinity of hemoglobin adversely. Tobacco smoking leads to high B.P, loss
of weight, loss of mental ability and increases the chances of Paralysis. It increases the chances of abortion in
Pregnant Woman and also retards the development of Fetus in the. It is rightly
in this prospection that tobacco smoking has been prohibited in our religion
too. As per Islamic Sharriah anything (poisonous or Toxic) that may kill a
person quickly or slowly is prohibited and tobacco is one such thing.
Tobacco has been reported as the major killer as per the
tobacco Atlas released on March 29, 2009. As per the report Tobacco kills Six
million people World Wide Annually out of which 72% people are from low
income and middle income countries. Tobacco also drains 5oo billion dollars
from the world economy. This amount exceeds the total combined expenditure
on health in all low income and middle income countries. In underdeveloped
and developing countries smokers spend great sums of money is spend on
food and health care facilities, 10 million people would no longer suffer from
malnutrition and 350 children will be saved each day. The need of the hour is
therefore to stand firm in the campaign against Tobacco both individually as
well as collectively. No doubt punitive damages of 145 billion US Dollars
were awarded against five U.S Tobacco firms in 2000 by an American jury. Tobacco causes Lung Cancer
Similarly tobacco advertisements were banned in February 2003 in U.K. In our country the
advertisement of Cigarettes has been banned and legislation has been passed to prohibit people from smoking in
public places but this is not enough. The laws need to be implemented with results.
The Govt. should ban the trade of Tobacco and should formulate a policy to provide an alternative
job to the people involved in the trade. But all this will not bring results unless people cooperate in the campaign
against tobacco. It is the duty of Teachers, Scholars, Parents and Legislators to work in the respective domains for
eradicating the menace as we have been warned that smoking is injurious to health.
