3. Aim of the Project
11 April 2017 3
This Project aims on taking attendance based on
fingerprint using a portable device and to monitor it by
the concern authority using an android application.
4. Introduction
4/15/2017 4
Fingerprint of a person is scanned and attendance is instantly
updated in an android application.
Then the system automatically finds the absentees and inform their
parents by sending alert messages.
There is also a provision for class rating by the students for each
hour.
Attendance along with average class rating can be viewed by
authorized person though an android application.
When the teacher request button is pressed by a Students, HOD
can allot a staff into the concerned class.

7. Block Diagram Description
4/15/2017 7
POWER SUPPLY:
•In the system IC 7805 is used to supply regulated voltage to the
main board.
•It supports output current up to 1.5A.
FINGERPRINT MODULE:
•Main heart of the circuit is the fingerprint Module. FIM30
module is used.
•Fingerprint recognition module consist of an optic sensor and
processing board.
•Fingerprint module sends commands to the controller whenever
fingerprint is matched.
8. Block Diagram Description
4/15/2017 8
MICROCONTROLLER:
•PIC 16F877A is used.
•It is the core of the circuit.
•40 pin DIP package
•Microcontroller receives commands from fingerprint module and
uses EEPROM to store the presence.
• The controller checks with the roll number lists which is already
saved and detect missing numbers.
GSM MODULE:
•SIM800C Module is used.it requires +5V for its working Then
the system sends messages using a GPRS.
• Most 2G GSM networks operate in the 900 MHz or 1800 MHz
bands.
9. April 10, 2017 9
LCD:
•LCD used here is for viewing the status of the system. Here a 16*2
line LCD is used.
•It requires a power supply of +5V.
BUZZER AND BUTTONS:
•Buzzer generate warning signal. It produces sound when
When the data is updated to the application.
And when the messages are sent.
• For rating and teacher request Push buttons are used.
12. 4/15/2017 12
The transmitter pin of the fingerprint module is connected to the
RB0(33 pin) and receiver pin is connected to the RC0(15 pin) of
PIC.
Thus the fingerprint sends commands to the controller whenever
the fingerprint is matched.
Microcontroller receives these commands from controller and
fingerprint module uses EEPROM to store the presence.
The controller checks with the roll number list and detect the
missing numbers.
13. 4/15/2017 13
For serial communication MAX232 IC are used.T1(11 pin) is
connected to the RC6(25 pin) and R1(12 pin) is connected to the
RC7(26 pin) of PIC.
MAX232 is used when microcontroller circuit that requires
communication through a serial port, ie: for CMOS and TTL
communication.
The 14 and 13 pins of max232 IC is connected to the 2 and 3 pins of
GSM modem, In which the server communication is established
with the same.
14. 4/15/2017 14
A crystal oscillator uses the mechanical resonance of a vibrating
crystal of piezoelectric material to create an electrical signal with a
precise frequency.
It is connected to the controller between pins 13 and 14.
The capacitors are there to resonate with the crystal inductance
and cause the crystal to oscillate on its fundamental parallel-
resonant mode.
The LCD display is also connected to the microcontroller through
the pins RB2,RB4,RB5,RB6,RB7 and RC0 for executing different
operations such as Register Select, Read/Write,Enable and
contrast control etc.
15. ADVANTAGES
Portability of device can be achieved
Absentees are easily identified and information’s are
passed to the respective persons in a faster way.
Self-assessment for teachers can be achieved.
Parents can easily understand attendance performance
of their children.
Attendance proxy can be reduced.
16. DISADVANTAGES
• The system hangs when the GSM module will
not get the network
• Thereby, time lag will happens to the system.
17. Conclusion
4/15/2017 17
This system is a effective method for monitoring the
attendance system.
Sending alert messages to the absentees mobile is also
possible.
Authorized persons can view attendance just by opening
android application.
Feedback for each staff can be obtained using this system.
Using this system paper work for attendance marking can be
reduced.
Attendance proxy can be reduced.
