As an independent consultant, I managed various projects (such as Business and IT transformations, infrastructure upgrade, policy management, application development, etc.) more than 10 different industries across
Canada and USA. Due to working on diverse projects, I was very fortunate to work with a number of experienced leaders and well organized team players. I learned a lot of leadership attributes and I look forward to
continue learning from upcoming projects. Very recently, I worked with one of the brilliant leader to deliver a number of projects. Hence his leadership attributes and project impacts are highlighted below:

John Tyler
(not a real
name)
John has a Strategic Thinking mindset:
At Business Transformation program, John helped me to
decompose program into multiple projects. He
communicated programs mission and vision to project
stakeholders. He also set goals for each project that
were aligned with program objectives. He also
introduced me with Project steering committee and
provided guidance that leads to projects success.
As a result, I was able to develop project road
map and stakeholders management plan in a
short period of time
The project team had a clear
understanding of project objectives
and Project deliverables. They also
knew their roles and responsibilities
for this project
The end client had a clear idea about
upcoming products and its, risks, and
mitigation plan. They were able to
create a product training plan for end
users

than protecting self-esteem
John has an Effective Negotiation skill:
At the planning phase of the Transformation project,
the business leads started requesting me to create
multiple Purchase Order (PO) without following defined
process. John collaborated with respective leaders to
review P2P processes and negotiated with business
advisors to bundle multiple Statement of Works in to
one Purchase Order (PO) and he convinced the business
leads to follow best practices prior to submitting any
Purchase Order.
As a result, I was able to delegate PO requests
to proper channel and utilize my time to
project management activities
The team had a better idea about P2P
process. The team focused to execute
their assigned activities. .
The project sponsor had a better
visibility about vendors engagement
and their deliverables
John has a strong hold on Financial Management:
At the Business Intelligence project, John provided high
level template, shared his knowledge from prior
projects, and provided historical data to develop Class
B estimates
As a result, I was able to develop optimize cost
estimates and delivered project on budget
through sound financial management
The project team executed their
assigned activities within given
timeline and they also were aware of
project cost during the project life
cycle
Expected value provided to client
within budget.
John has an excellent Problem Solving skill:
While business reengineering Project’s budget ran out
in the middle of the project, the Project sponsor was
reluctant to increase the budget but he wanted us to
complete the project. John facilitated a multiple
meeting with management team to perform root cause
analysis of the problem. It turned out that, a number of
requirements changes caused scoped creep hence a
budget approval was required to complete the required
work. The project sponsor was convinced about scope
creep and the Budget was approved.
As a result, I was able to rebaseline the
budget and project schedule to complete the
project work
Project team had a clear
understanding about the change
request and work priority. They were
able to focus to get the job done on
time and on budget
The project sponsor received project
deliverables within rebaselined
project budget.
John is a great Thoughtful Leader:

project sponsor was in a disagreement with the plan.
John volunteered to look at the plan thoroughly,
interviewed subject matter experts, reviewed historical
data to confirm my justifications/reasoning of the plan

the project team and defended the plan in the steering
committee. As a result, the project sponsor approved

Inspirational leader:
I managed three projects under John’s leadership. John
met with me once and shared his thoughts about
program management. He introduced me with
interested stakeholders, set expectations. He also
guided me from time to time to ensure team building
trust in place, project risks were properly mitigated. He
never micromanaged rather provided his trust and
transparency to ensure a smooth project management
I was able to create a general consensus
amongst project team about their roles and
responsibilities. Project Management Plan,
and Stakeholders communication plan was
developed at the earlier of the project. I had a
great visibility about project road map,
resource management, and project
deliverables. I had great team collaboration
and I was able to run projects independently.
Project team was well aware of their
project roles and responsibilities.
They completed their activities
independently at their own pace. The
projects completed on time.
Better collaboration between
business, project sponsor and the
project team.
Better trust between project manager
and the project sponsor
Deliverables were well understood
and products (end values) were well
appreciated.
