SUMMARY
Lecturer at the Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University with 11 years of professional and academic
experience in the field of Geomatics and Transportation Engineering.
Professional expertise includes:
- Handling traditional survey equipment including levels, GPS, and total stations to establish
control points and to conduct planemetric and topographical surveying.
- Measuring precise settlements and deflections of structural elements such as foundations, bridges,
and buildings.
- Calculating the earthworks for site grading.
- Collecting and processing of traffic data using video sensors through computer vision and
machine learning techniques.
- Designing road network and highway detailed plans including best route selection, horizontal and
vertical alignments, typical and detailed cross sections, grade-separated interchanges, and
preparation of specifications and BOQ.
- Traffic Safety Analysis (traditional and surrogate safety analysis).
Academic expertise includes:
- PhD in Civil Engineering from Polytechnique Montreal (University of Montreal)
- MSc in Civil Engineering from Faculty of engineering, Cairo University
- Teaching undergraduate courses: Land Surveying, Geodesy, GPS, Photogrammetry, Remote
sensing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
EDUCATION
Doctor of Philosophy (2010-2015), Dept. of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering, Polytechnique
Montréal, Montreal, Canada,
Thesis: “Automatic Behavior Analysis and Understanding of Collision Processes Using Video Sensors”
Master of Science (2004-2008), Civil Engineering - Public Works Department, Cairo University, Giza,
Egypt,
Thesis: “Utilization of Very High Resolution satellite images and GIS technology for Freeway Route
Selection Optimization”
Bachelor of Engineering (1999-2004), Civil Engineering, Cairo University, Giza, Egypt,
General Grade: Distinction with Honor (rank 5th
among 350 students).
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Road User Behavior and Road Safety Analyst
Transportation Laboratory, Polytechnique Montreal
Collection and analysis of traffic video data to extract the trajectories for all
road users using computer vision technique.
Automatic counts of road users at intersections.
Development of safety and behavior analysis tool to diagnosis the safety of any
site and understand the collision processes. This tool relies on the observation of
interactions between road users without waiting for collisions to happen.
2010-2015

Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Active Brains Consulting Group, Giza, Egypt (http://www.activebrains.net/)
Producing a rough grading drawings for site grading.
Team leader for the site grading supervision which controls the site preparation,
excavation, fill and backfill works.
Producing a periodic monthly progress report for the site grading development
with the estimation of earthworks quantities.
Continuous monitoring and studying of the structural behaviour of vibrated
instruments on the foundation of oil and gas plants. This is performed to
monitor the safety and the structures lifecycles.
2006-2010
Highway Design Engineer
Engineering Consulting Office (Prof. Dr. Ahmed Atef Gadallah) ,Giza, Egypt
Designing road networks and highway aspects starting with preliminarily route
selection, horizontal alignment, vertical profiles, typical and detailed cross
sections.
Calculating earthwork and preparing of BOQ
Design of highway segments, internal road network links, grade intersections
and grade interchanges.
2004 -2010
Geomatics Engineer
Geomatics Research Laboratory, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo University ,Giza,
Egypt
Participating in quality control tests carried out on newly constructed bridges. It
is performed by loading the bridges with tracks and measuring the deflection
before and after the loading using precise levels and/or total station.
Measuring the heights/elevations of existing buildings around the international
Cairo airport (Sheraton region). These measurements and report are submitted
to Civilian Flying Authority.
Participating in laboratory training courses for teaching the undergraduate civil
engineers using some programs such as ArcGIS, surfer, and land desktop/ Civil
3D.
2004 -2010
Geomatics Engineer
Research & Studies Center of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Cairo
University ,Giza, Egypt
Supervise surveying works and prepare maps to the clients.
Determine longitudes and latitudes of control points for topographical surveying
and/or satellite images rectifications using global positioning systems (GPS).
Planimetric surveying (2D) and Topographical surveying (3D) using Total
Station instruments for built-up areas.
Earthwork computations.
Dilapidation survey (Pre-construction condition survey) for monitoring
buildings during water dwelling; performed at several governmental and private
buildings all over Egypt and the area of sphinx and sound and light zone, Giza
Governorate, Egypt.
