Profile
An ambitious and passionate Masters of Mechanical engineering graduate seeking to
combine academic knowledge and work experiences to challenging engineering
projects with a strong interest in automotive, safety and manufacturing fields but open
to all fields.
Education and Qualifications
2011-2016 University of Portsmouth, MEng Mechanical Engineering
2009-2011 Bromley College
Btec Electronic Engineering (MMM)
2004-2009 Royal Russel School

Work Experience
Summer 2014 Shadowing
Guy Salmon Land Rover (Northampton)
− Shadowing technician during automotive repairs
− Assisting with small jobs (tools, removal of
components, installation of components)
Whilst shadowing in an environment where tools and machinery are in constant use,
certain safety standards had to be followed. I assisted with getting tools and
installation of components such as starter motor, air intake pipe, battery and glow
plugs. I also assisted with separating the body from the chassis leaving a V6 engine,
gearbox and exhaust system exposed. By being exposed to such an environment, it
has taught me that safety is prime and keeping your work station clean at all times is
mandatory.
Summer 2013 Pay roll
Trinity care LTD
− Creating carers pay slips weekly
− Assigning carers suitable for individual client needs
At Trinity care LTD, my main task at the beginning was to create pay slips for carers.
When I started, the manager told me they were 14 weeks behind on creating the pay
slips due to staff issues. Within 2-3 weeks the pay slips were all up to date. Due to a
colleague taking some time off, I began assigning carers and managing client files.
2. Team work and communication was crucial throughout, any information received by
any colleague had to be shared. As most clients are elderly or disabled, there is no
margin for error as you are responsible for their care.
Summer 2011 Shadowing
Mercedes Specialist garage + Body shop
− Shadowing technician during automotive repairs
− Shadowing technician during body repairs and spray
painting
At Mercedes, I mainly shadowed with automotive repairs such as fan replacement, oil
change and brake pads/disks. A customer requested a sound system installation which
I carried out.
At the body shop I shadowed a technician whilst removing a door dent, back bumper
replacement and removing a scratch. Before a vehicle goes in to the paint shop, paper
is used to cover parts of the car where paint isn’t necessary which I assisted with.

Projects
The conceptual study of a self-repairing lead acid battery (Individual):
This project entails investigating ways in which car batteries can autonomously repair
when voltage drops occur due to a fault known as sulfation. 80% of battery failures
within vehicles are due to sulfation which makes it a major fault in the automotive
industry. Although there are chemicals in the form of tablets that owners can deposit
within the battery cells, 90% of owners are unaware of this method. Using surveys
and experimental data, a system has been designed using control modules, sensors,
and pumps that will inject a formulated chemical in the form of compressed granules
into the battery to restore the performance of the battery. This project and
investigation focused on designing a system that is affordable and accomplishes the
desired result seamlessly.
Incorporation of renewable energy systems in Portsmouth (Group):
As fossil fuels are non-renewable forms of energy, renewable energy is becoming
widely used and implemented into everyday life. Using solar panels, energy can be
harvested that is used to power heating and cooling services to an apartment complex.
A water source heat pump is used to provide hot water for heating and an air
conditioning unit for cooling. During winter months where sun is scarce, a storage
reservoir consisting of AGM batteries will supply power that is collected and stored
during summer months. An irradiation data analysis was preformed within
Portsmouth to provide the best tilt and orientation positions of the panels and an
irradiation harvest/consumption analysis.
Both projects required the use of problem solving skills however the group project has
sharpened my ability to lead a team and taught me communication is vital.
