2. WHAT IS RADIOACTIVE POLLUTION
Many minerals in the earth discharge a slow and steady of radiation
Radiation occurs when nuclear becomes unstable and falls apart due too many neutrons compared to the proton
This decay discharges atomic radiation as alpha particles, beta particles and gamma radiation
We generally aren’t harmed when exposed to the low level source of radiation
Medium to high level of radiation will affects our health and environment
Radioactive pollution occurs when high level of radiation exposed to an area without being control or leak cause by natural disaster or
accident
3. TYPE OF RADIOACTIVE
POLLUTION
OCCASIONAL POLLUTION
(OCCURS DURING
EXPERIMENT OR TEST)
• NUCLEAR TEST
ACCIDENTAL POLLUTION
(RADIATIONS ARE OUT OF
CONTROL)
• DANGEROUS SUBSTANCE
FAIL
• NUCLEAR REACTOR
ACCIDENT
CONTINUOUS POLLUTION
(POLLUTION ALWAYS PRESENT)
• MINES
• NUCLEAR REACTOR
• TEST LABORATORIES
4. SOURCE OF RADIOACTIVE
COSMIC RAY
MINING AND
PROCESSING ORES
OF RADIOACTIVE
MATERIAL
NUCLEAR POWER
PLANTS
NUCLEAR WEAPON
ATOMIC WASTE
MATERIALS
5. EFFECTS OF RADIOACTIVE
• Birth defect
• Adult onset diseases
Multifactorial
disease
• Disfigured birth
• Physical impairment at birth
• Reproductive defects
Reproductive
effects
• Cells damages
• Tissues damages
Somatic effects
• Damage to DNA strands
• Adverse effect to genetic break up
Genetic effects
7. PREVENTION
Nuclear device should be exploded underground
Production of radio isotopes should be optimized
Extreme care should be highlighted in the disposal of radioactive waste materials
Fission reaction should be limited
Use of a high chimney and ventilations at working place where radioactive contaminant is high
Nuclear medicines and radiation therapy should only apply when necessary
A waste management system must always improved over time
Only authorized person may use a radioactive material with minimum usage
8. CONCLUSION
Radioactive pollution is very dangerous to environment and being
Place contaminant with radiation need at least a million years to declare safe for live
Any prevention method must be considered to protect us from radioactive pollution
Protect our future generation from radioactive pollution
