2. In what ways does your media product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions of real media?
For our film opening, we planned out many different ideas of what we would like it
to consist of. We looked more into horror and tragedy and then working our way
from their to create a story. We wanted to give it the atmosphere of something
that is unknown to happen. We then looked into a lot of films that have this same
type of atmosphere to see if we were able to come out with anymore ideas. I also
felt like whilst watch real films made by actual professionals gave us more thoughts
on how to use camera angles within our production. From the start we did have a
script, like every other film openings we were wanting to have a dialogue between
the two main characters. But once we’ve started editing after filming, we felt like it
gave more of an atmosphere where there was no dialogue, having it as a montage
with just music behind it to create the atmosphere that was in mind. Our opening
of the films starts with a close up shot of a lit candle to make the audiences who
watches think more of the story we ended the film opening by filming the candle
slowly getting blown out. We felt like this was a way to get audiences thinking,
‘what is going to happen’ ‘why is that happening’ ‘what is going on’ ‘why is there
no dialogue’ because that is the things which attracts audience to continue and
watch.
3. How does your media product represent
particular social groups?
In our film opening we hope to aim for different social groups such as gender,
age, ethnicity and region. Our opening scene has two actors and one actress
there was clear shots of who the actress was and also one of the actors. Even
though the second actor was shot it was harder to see his face as the lighting
around did not bring out his facial features. I feel like this gave it more of an
atmosphere of how we wanted the opening film to be so that it would link to
horror/tragedy. As we were going that direction we wanted one of our
characters to have that type of performance in him. So we chose the male out
and with the way we filmed with lighting and angles, it performed into a more
suspicious way of not know who he is.
4. What of media institution might distribute your
media product and why?
I feel like for this level, YouTube is a really great social space to
share our film openings or any other projects we have. Many
people round the world use YouTube as a place where they can
express themselves. Either by their work they’ve made or
personal experiences by bloggers.
YouTube is a social space which is opened to many countries
around the world. Film productions on YouTube such as WONG
FU PRODUCTIONS produces short skids or film series and place
them onto YouTube. Also sharing links of personal media
accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram ETC will grab
people around you to notice your work then forward it out to a
larger community of audiences.
5. What have you learnt about technologies
from the process of this production?
With me starting the course later than the rest, I felt it a little
hard to catch up with what terms meant what. I felt really
blessed to have a teacher who was able to explain to me what
the editing or camera terminologies meant. I was also lucky
enough to have a group which was able to explain and
demonstrate to me how a 180 degrees angle works or why we
should use a hand held shot. I felt like it gave me a clear
understanding of why certain methods were used for our film
because it was able to bring the story we wanted out to the
audience.
6. The target audience towards our film production is to
people around 15 onwards. Its something which makes
audience think what will happen. We had different
ideas of what we wanted the story to be but we also
wanted audience to have the mind of not knowing
what will happen so they will carry on watching if we
had the whole film instead of just the opening.
What would be the audience for your
media production?
7. Overall
Overall I felt like as a group we have worked really well to
produce this film. Even though we have difficulties whilst
planning and filming we tried as a group to figure out what we
could do to change and add for a better outcome. Even though I
miss out on four months from the start of the course I felt like
my group has helped me expand my knowledge of filming,
editing and why it should happen within the final outcome.
As this is my first project I’ve done for this AS course, I am unable
to compare to what I’ve done to the past. But when our teacher
gave us feedback telling us what was good and what was bad I
understood the points he made which then I saw why it should
be changed for our final outcome to be better.
