11. IPM (INTEGRATED PEST MANAGEMENT)
Whatis lPM?
IPM a is safe approach to pest control in
Bangladesh. It uses a mixture of ways (Integrated) to
prevent crop damage and protect man, helpful
creatures and the environment (soil, water, air, other
creatures) (Management).

13. CUL
TURALPRACTICES
Normal field work is used tomake field conditions best for the crop and worst for
pests.
Site selection
Preparing land early and properly.
Using pest-free plantingmaterial.
Spacing toreduce overcrowding and diseasebuild-up.
Checking fields weekly forproblems (scouting).
Feeding plants forearly,healthygrowth.
Early removal of sick plants from fields.
Crop rotation.
Reaping on time toescape pestdamage.
Reaping withcare toreduce bruises androts. 13
14. BIOLOGICALCONTROL
In nature, many creatures kill pests.
The three types of beneficials (Natural
enemies) are:
-Parasites
-Predators
-pathogens.
14
16. CHEMICAL CONTROL
Pesticides are made tokill pests. Most
pesticides willalso kill or harm otherliving
things.
Some are verypoisonous; others less
dangerous toman, beneflcials andthe
environment.
Botanical insecticides are made fromplants.
Some are safer andstill quite effectiveagainst pests

=use of appropriate
fungicide (eg.Carbendazin)

24. HARVESTING
Major challenge in sorrel production
Clip fruits individually from the plant.
Theuse of an umbrellaโs main vein is use toeasily separate
the seed from the calyx.
Store Calyx properly and move tomarket as quickly as
possible.
