The 1992 Rio Summit was a major UN conference on the environment and sustainable development held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with over 170 country governments participating at high levels. It aimed to build on the previous 1972 Stockholm conference and address pressing environmental issues through cooperation between governments and thousands of non-governmental organizations in attendance.
