Founder/ Leader of Harrells Health Club
Grades 11,12

1st Place for London Photography Competition
Grade 11
While I was at Cambridge for an academic program, they hosted a photo contest. When we
toured London, I got some friends and we went on a photo shoot to test our creativity by
taking unique photos around the city. I sent in a few of my photos. My favorite picture
won first place for the contest and others had special recognition. This experience made
me understand that not only can I excel in academics, but I also have an artistic side in
me.
Leadership
In August, 2014, I went to another medical camp through the National Student Leadership
Conference. This camp was at the Harvard Medical School and we were able to tour Harvard
University and the Medical School. We learned information about being in the medical field and
also got to practice basic skills of interviewing patients. I also participated in getting a credit for
Global Public Health through American University while I was there.
In August, 2013, I attended a medical camp through the National Student Leadership Conference
to Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. This was an amazing trip where I was able to
suture a pig's foot, dissect a heart, and dissect an eyeball. I also learned a lot of valuable
information about myself and how to be a leader.
In July, 2013, I attended a medical camp at the University of North Carolina- Chapel Hill with the
National Youth Leadership Forum. This was another great experience in which I gained knowledge
about the medical field while also meeting others who will support me in the future.
In June, 2013, I was able to attend Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland for a People to
People medical camp. I was able to learn how to suture, check blood pressure, and a great amount
of other general information about the medical field.
I was able to attend the first Congress of Future Medical Leaders in February 2014. I had the
ability to listen to speeches made by major doctors and scientists, including two Nobel Prize
winners. I was also able to meet Jack Andraka, Brittany Wenger, and Dr. Connie Mariano, the
president's physician. I am attending the second Congress in November.
From December 26, 2013, to January 6, 2014, I was able to go to India and experience their
culture while helping in service projects. This was an amazing trip that allowed me to meet
awesome people while serving the community through building, painting, and donating.
In 2013 I was able to go on another People to People Program to the Presidential Inauguration. I
was able to experience DC in a time of excitement and change and also meet friends who inspired
me through their varied interests.
The summer of 2012 I went on a People to People Leadership Program to Australia for two weeks.
This was my first experience out of the country without my family and it was an experience that
sparked my love for traveling. Through this program, I was able to meet others who loved to travel
while learning about the culture of Australia.
Additional Information
I was able to apply to attend Noble Week in Sweden through an application process with the
National Society of High School Scholars. Out of over 200 applicants, I was one of the scholars
selected to attend in December 2014. I was able to sit in on lectures by the Nobel Laureates, and I
was amazed at how long it took for their work to be recognized. The laureates were a great
inspiration and partaking in Noble Week was an awesome experience. Not only did I get to feel a
connection with these scientists, but I also got to experience the culture of Sweden.
From July 6th to August 3rd, I was able to attend Cambridge University for a month long academic
enrichment program. I chose Medicine and the Brain as my major class, and I chose Medical
Science as my minor class. This was an amazing experience because I was able to learn so much
unique information specified to my interests, such as traveling and medicine.
During my spring break in 2014, I went to South America and Antarctica. I was able to experience
the different cultures through trying new foods and being taught about their society. I was also
able to see the beauty of nature through Bolivian salt flats and the unique sights of Antarctica.
This was a mind-opening experience that I will never forget.
In 2011, 2012, and 2013 I was able to go out of the country to Canada to have a unique vacation
with my friends and family. We were able to enjoy different experiences ranging from cave
hunting to cliff diving. These experiences were just the beginning of my love for adventure and
traveling.
