On communication…“Matthew has given me the
support to feel a lot better about myself. I never
thought I could do it, but I was able to tell my
Muslim parents about being bisexual. That was one
of the hardest things I’ve ever done.”
On symptom management…“Matthew taught
me some unique ways to cope with my stress,
fear, and depression. I don’t feel so bogged
down all the time. I’m lighter and happier and
have a lot more energy. He’s been a great
resource and I’ve learned a lot in my counseling
with him.”
On interpersonal skills…“I used to have a really
hard time saying ‘no’ and would get all nervous
when I was around others. Matthew’s shown me
some great ways to set boundaries and stand up
for myself. I’m a lot more confident and can speak
my mind better. I can actually go out and do more
things around people and not feel so terrible and
embarrassed.”
On addiction management…“I’ve struggled with
drugs and alcohol for all my adult life. Matthew has
helped me to be more honest with myself. That
wasn’t easy and he pushed me pretty hard, but he
never gave up on me. There were a lot of times I
didn’t want to keep going. Not only have I been
able to stay clean and sober for over a year, but I’ve
been able to get to some of the roots of my real
problems. I get me more now and I don’t have to
go running to the bottle or smoke anymore crap.”
On personal identity
development… “Matthew’s
challenged me to be more self-
aware and to not run away
from my feelings, to face things
that I never wanted to look at. I
believe more in myself and I
don’t stay stuck for so long. It’s
been tough, but it’s been
worth it.”
On relationships…“My husband and
I have not been happy for a long
time. We’re working to change that
and Matthew’s given us a lot of
tools to help. At least we talk about
how we’re feeling instead of
screaming at each other or carrying
around anger and resentment all
the time. We’re doing better, and I
think our kids notice, too.”
On work-life balance…“In
talking to Matthew about my
symbiotic relationship with
my spouse, I have learned to
be more efficient and
effective in my work life and
my family life. I highly
recommend him!”
