3. Wegmans Background
● Family-owned supermarket established
originally in Rochester, NY in 1916 by Danny
Wegman
● Currently has 83 stores throughout the
northeast including NY, NJ, MA, VA, PA, MD
● Revenue for 2013 around $7 billion
4. Wegmans Problem
● Many urban professionals find themselves
strapped for time.
● Grocery shopping can be a time consuming
process when providing for meals for a
family
5. Wegmans’ Business Needs
● Society is becoming more E-commerce
based, so Wegmans needs to cater towards
customers who want to order goods online
in order to reach a larger market of
customers
● Wegmans needs a system to allow
customers to shop online and pick up items
at their convenience
6. Our Solution
● The goal of our project was to implement an add-on
system to Wegmans’ online website to allow for
grocery shopping to be done electronically, in a quick
and easy fashion. This system would allow customers
to place an order online and pick it up at the Wegmans
store at a scheduled time of their choice.

● N-tiered client server architecture
o Best option for e-commerce website
o Divides up application logic between web servers
(view merchandise) and application servers (make
shopping carts, payments, etc.)
o Highly scalable
