1. Beyoncé- I Am Sasha Fierce
Representation: Beyoncé on the front cover of her album looks naturally beautiful and possible could represent
to the target audience that she possibly could have ‘stripped all’ , done something different with this album. But
with the back of the cd cover it shows Beyoncé possibly showing her dark side her. ‘Sasha Fierce’.
Fonts: The font being used is a mirrored effect which sort of blends in with the cd cover, but due to the artist
being so well known at the front of the cd cover the consumers worldwide will be able to recognise that this is he
without needing to look at the name.
Iconography: This CD cover shows that the artist possible is starting afresh with this album as she’s seen as fresh
on the front but also has a dark side, and due to the album being called ‘I Am Sasha Fierce’ it may show another
personality coming out from the artist.
Representation: This CD cover represents the artist having a somewhat dark side to themselves, something
possessive inside of them, secretive. It’s completely different to the Beyoncé ‘I am Sasha Fierce’ cd cover as Beyoncé
face is on full show and Rihanna’s face is half covered which can also be interpreted as fear.
Font: The font on this cd cover is very minimal and blends in with the artist on the front of the cover hoping that the
general public can easily identify the artist without the font needed to. On the back of the compact disk the font is in
a dimmed white color which sort of blends in with the other colours being used on the back of the cd covers there
blending in naturally and doesn’t look ‘tacky’.
Iconography: With the artist, at the front of the cd cover it represents mysterious and somewhat possessive by the
way the artist is fixated on the picture , but on the back of the cd cover colour is used and it shows the artists in
stockings and small underwear showing that she is somewhat attractive and sensual.
2. Nicki Minaj- Pink Friday Roman Reloaded
Representation: Shows on the front the main artist who is staring directly at the audience, but in comparison
with the Ciara – Basic Instincts CD cover the look of Nicki Minaj’s CD cover is that her stare isn’t as sensual as
Ciara’s which in some way makes the audience intrigued that she is different from other artists.
Font: The font on the front of this CD cover is very different from any other cd cover I’ve seen. Strangely it has
many different fonts on it when normally there is only one set font. Also the colours of the font are mainly
pink and rainbow which attracts more the female audience.
Iconography: Shows that the artist is different others artists, the colour of the CD cover is not the most
stereotypical female artist CD cover you could have which in some ways this shows that’s she is different and
that the audience should be expecting a different sort of sound from the other females within the same genre.
Ciara- Basic Instinct
Representation: This CD cover shows on front a pretty woman who is staring straight the audience. With this
picture it shows a strong, powerful woman with an intriguing stare which draws the potential audience in.
Also by the way the artist is looking it makes her look mysterious which could possibly help represent the
songs being a mystery.
Font: The font on the front of the cd cover is the artist name in red and is using a very feminine font and
underneath has the name of the album in white. By using these 2 colours against the black background of her
hair it allows it to stand out boldly.
Iconography: The imagery of the artist with her hair swooping over her face is showing a sensual side of the
artist which could possibly be enhancing her ‘sex-appeal’ she also looks very dominant which could link in
with the type of album she has. The interesting thing about this cd cover is although the artist on the front is
looking very dominant, on the back of the cd the picture of the artist shows her quite vulnerable so this could
link in with her album possible having a vulnerable side to it too.
