Today you will learn about the Emojis and how they came
and who created them.
3. Emojis were created in 1998 by Shigetaka Kurita, an engineer at
the Japanese phone company, NTT Docomo. He was working on
a way for customers to communicate through icons.

➤ We also use them to show our actions or where we are.

instead of using our precious time to
type words and saving us time to do
other things.
➤ We can show if we are in a car,
plane, train, house, school, etc.
➤ Emojis give us characters and
animals to use to show what we are
talking about instead of describing it
in words.

➤ According to the Verge, the man we can thank today for
emojis is Shigetaka Kurta, the father of emoji. As an employee
of NTT DoCoMo back in the day, he was part of the intrepid i-
mode team that sought to revolutionize Japan’s means of
communication.

As the 20th century drew to a close,
Japanese mobile-phone companies
were under increasing pressure to
support Japanese users’ obsession
with images. They noticed a trend
where a lot of picture messages were
being exchanged by their Japanese
clients. So instead of ignoring this,
these Japanese mobile-phone
companies actually gave their users
more of what they wanted. : )!
