Midlands Agricultural Show
1. In a bid to connect with stakeholders, Midlands State University took part at the annual Midlands
Agricultural Show which ran from 23 to 26 July under the theme “Youth Employment and
National Development”. The show was held at the Gweru Show grounds.
Guest of Honour at the 90th
Edition of the Midlands Agricultural Show, Vice President Cde
Phelekezela Mphoko officially opened the event. In his speech, the Vice President underscored
the importance of promoting national development through business and trade, together with the
creation of employment for youth empowerment under the ZIMASSET agenda.
The Midlands Agricultural Show, which is one of the largest business and trade exhibition
platforms in the country, provided an opportunity for the University to market various
programmes offered across different faculties. The show also served as a communication
platform, allowing the University to interact and receive invaluable feedback from its valid
stakeholders, among them government officials, captains of industry and members of the public.
Visitors to the University stand included MSU Pro Vice- Chancellor (Business Development and
Administration) Professor K Wekwete, who expressed satisfaction with the University’s display
and commended participants from the various departments.
“We (MSU) have managed to grow over the years and I’m pleased with your participation and
promotion of sciences, agriculture, education as well as African culture through traditional music
by the band (Those Guys). I’m also happy to see the experimental displays by the Biological
Sciences Department detailing research into animal science”, said Prof Wekwete.
On the entertainment front the curtain came down on the 2015 edition of the Midlands
Agricultural Show with memorable and mesmerising live performances from MSU band ‘Those
Guys’ who were the opening act, for man of the moment and Jerusarema hit-maker Jah Prayzah
and his Third Generation Band. Strumming popular tunes such as Eliza, Jah Prayzah, set the
stage on fire to leave fans clamouring for more as the show came to a close.
2. The University’s exhibition comprised members from the Library Services Department,
Biological Sciences Department, Department of Food Science and Nutrition, Media and Society
Studies Department, Music and Musicology Department, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Natural
Resources and Agriculture and the MSU ENACTUS Club.
