1. FACULTY OF MEDICINE RECEIVES SHOT IN THE ARM
World Vision, a humanitarian non-governmental organisation, donated medical equipment
and books worth $18 000 to the recently established Midlands State University Faculty of
Medicine on Thursday 7 May 2015.
The donation included medical examination beds, disposable protective underwear, plastic
basins, catheters drains and various medical kits. The consignment also included books which
were handed over to the University Librarian, Ms N P Chibanda.
In receiving the equipment, MSU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Business Development and
Administration) Professor Kadmiel Hwekwete thanked World Vision for the kind gesture.
“The medical equipment donated by World Vision will go a long way in helping us to
produce a fully equipped and well polished medical student. We are grateful for the
continued relationship which exists between the University and World Vision”, he said.
In her handover remarks, the Acting Operations Manager of World Vision, Mrs Sibongile
Damasane pledged that her organisation will continue working with the University and will
always assist in areas that will benefit the community, especially children.
“We will continue working with Midlands State University as part of our efforts to ensure
that we support the reading culture and resourcing tertiary institutions libraries and
laboratories,” she said.
The Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, Mr Alex Mukwembi also expressed his
appreciation for the donation and called for partnerships in areas of possible engagement
between the two institutions.
World Vision is one of the largest humanitarian organisations in Zimbabwe, operating in
relief and development projects across the country which are benefitting more than one
million people. It runs community development programmes designed to address community
needs with specific focus on children; using participatory planning approaches and ensuring
sustainability.
The organisation has been donating to the university for the past 4 years.
