1. Linux Platform Engineer* - Systems Delivery, £30k to £40k + Benefits,
The creation of a broadcast solution for our Clients is a complex one and includes running multiple
applications on defined platforms. The core function of this role is to ensure that the environment
in which the applications run is not only stable but standard and provides hardware redundancy
where required.
Main duties and responsibilities of the role:
Linux Platform Engineer supporting the delivery project teams, you will
Develop and run efficient mechanisms for the installation and test of OS, Clustering, and
applications.
Provide platform tuning to ensure that standard environments are operating optimally.
Support the development of security standards of environments.
Test to ensure new versions of OS and clustering solutions are fit for purpose.
Qualify firmware/OS combinations.
Provide support for Linux packaging standards of the Applications.
Define and document installation processes and guidelines.
Provide support to Delivery and Support Engineers when they encounter platform issues.
Replicate any post deployment environment issues and provide solutions.
Input to systems requirements to gain functional improvements for test, delivery, operations
and support.
Comply with the client methodology for testing to ensure that all appropriate steps are executed
to the agreed project time-scales.
Keep up to date with new technology and products as they come on-line.
Overseas travel may be required on an occasional basis
Support of some peripheral Windows based systems.
Mandatory skills and experience
A demonstrable ability to troubleshoot and test platform issues (e.g. OS, clustering, etc.) This
experience could have been gained in a variety of roles from IT infrastructure support and
installation, Linux systems administration, on-site product system installation or in an
integration & test role similar to this post at.
Degree educated.
A sound understanding of Linux.
An enthusiastic nature, a willingness to learn and a love of technology.
Desired skills and experience (more senior candidates will be expected to offer some of
the following)
Advanced platform “tuning” skills.
Linux Red Hat clustered systems.
Oracle or SQL.
Experience of Digital Broadcasting headend systems.

The client also has a discretionary, annual bonus scheme, which is non-contractual. The amount
paid is based upon personal and company performance, it is paid in August (financial year ends in
June). Reviews are carried out annually in July; to qualify a candidate must have joined before April.
