 Is the critical initial step in getting the right
people in the right place at the right time
 It looks at the totality of the personnel
complement of an organization mainly for
the purpose of ensuring an efficient and
effective performance of an organization
 Is the process by which management ensures
that it has the right personnel who are
capable of complementing those tasks that
help the organization reach its objectives.
 First it should ensure adequate staff
 HR planning should see that the company
recruits the right people, with the right skills
 It is to ensure that the company is responsive
to changes in its environment
 HR Planning should give direction and
coherence to all other HR activities and
systems
 Perspective of line and staff managers should
be linked
 Step 1 : Formulate a strategic plan
 Step 2 : Forecast the human resource needs in
line with its organizational plans and targets
 Step 3: Determine the human resource
availability
 Step 4: Compare the required with available
human resources in order to determine whether
the organization has a surplus or a shortage of
employees.
 Aggregate Planning is to find out the
manpower demand in advance.
