corpo sottilissimo e bianco, niente seno e niente
cinema. Anche quando il corpo femminile svestito
sembra apparire –e appare– ovunque, nello schermo
Sensual, erotic, statuary: the female body dominates
the cinematographic universe
A short appearance that serves as a prologue to The train to
Darjeeling and then the inevitable glare on Youtube: for
Natalie Portman, it was sufficient to be seen leaning in
profile against an old chest of drawers in a hotel room to
whip her admirers into a frenzy. Maybe because in those
images of Hotel Chevalier, Natalie is naked, and the
silhouette of her body, thin and white, no breasts or
buttocks in sight, says much about the meaning of nudity in
cinema. Even when the naked female body seems to
appear –and appears– everywhere, on the larger than life
screen where the film is projected (but also at home on DVD
or pc) this body can be redesigned and dressed as an
ephemeral texture, mixing two-dimensionalism, movement,
and fantasy. Without considering –it would be insane to
deny it– the weight of the component voyeurism in
discovering ‘how she really is’, the actress who by now has
been dreamed about and imagined in her thousands of
clothed appearances. To talk in the feminine is almost a
must: there are naked men, full frontals are also very
fashionable, but usually the camera loves and dwells mainly
on the contours of the female body. Aesthetic, erotic, raw or
cruel as it may seem. In the first category, certain hints of
eroticism but so expanded over time that the viewer also
becomes accustomed, belonging to the ode of the body of
psicanalizza una candida e morbidissima giovane
‘noiseuse’.
Programmaticamente disturbanti,
Gocce d’acqua su pietre roventi, film dall’impianto
Emmanuelle Béart who played the beautiful yet surly
character in Rivette, four hours of film in which a painter
(Michel Piccoli ) portrays and almost psychoanalyses a
candid and very soft young “noiseuse”. Aesthetic to the
point of ice are also the nude scenes of Nicole Kidman in
‘Eyes Wide Shut’ in which Kubrick also took other perfect
bodies engaged in an aseptic orgy, very distant from the
elderly and horrifying nudity - decidedly cruel-that the same
director, 29 years earlier, had emerge from a bath in Shining.
Programmatically disturbing, worse than cruel, the many
naked and dehumanized figures grouped in ‘Salò’ or the
‘120 days of Sodoma’ di Pasolini, and only raw the “short
cut” of the pubis of Julianne Moore in ‘America Today’,
however, where the indifference with which the character
inhabits the scene, covering only the upper body did not fail
to intrigue viewers, even if they fully understood the sense of
unease and unhappy realism that the director Robert
Altman wanted to communicate. On erotic nudity, then, the
film triumphs as the flesh of the young Ludivine Seigner in
“Drops of Water Onto Hot Stones”, an ironic and intellectual
film as far as you want yet decidedly “filled” with sensuality
with which the French actress, and her breasts, overflow.
Erotic even though full of melancholic essence, finally, the
nude scenes of Kate Winslet in ‘The Reader’, a film with
which the British had just won an Oscar. Even knowing how
to undress, it is above all being able to choose when to do
so that requires talent.
